Re: Hindu with circumflex?

I asked some Farsi speakers, they said that 'hendu' refers to roughly the same thing as the English word 'Hindu', and 'hendi' refers to the same thing as the English word 'Indian'. The reason it's 'hendu' and not 'hindu' is because there was a phonological shift in Persian in which short 'i' became ...

Re: Hindu with circumflex?

While reading an old 1930s book I noticed Hindû used with a diacritical. Same with Hindûsthân. Nowadays I do not see that, is or was that legitimate then? Maybe like nirvana, hindu is been Englished so often, the diacriticals are ignored?? The word Hindū is actually Persian. The Sanskrit is síndhu,...

Re: How do buddhists find exercise motivation?

I've found that exercise is pretty beneficial for my mental health, which then benefits my Buddhist practice; both with meditation and being mindful in everyday life. Also, it was through exercising and getting fit that I learnt self-discipline, which has been beneficial for my practice as well.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Is it okay to whisper song of vajra without melody and not according to the usual timings of the song, or would it be better if I did a different practice instead? My circumstances require me to be very quiet unfortunately.

Thankyou

Re: Socialism & Communism

Smith and Ricardo did not equate value and price either. Value is based on labour, material etc. Price is simply what it is exchanged for. Both Smith and Ricardo made that clear. It's only with marginal economics and the spread of utilitarianism that value and price were equated. What's so bad abou...

Re: Socialism & Communism

They are a fringe group. Communism is done. It’s toast. Marx is for adolescents. I'd definitely agree that the 'Orthodox Marxism' of the 19th and 20th Centuries is done. A lot of what is thought of as 'Marxism' is pretty much Marx as he was interpreted by Engels and Lenin according to the condition...

Re: Socialism & Communism

Dude, you give communism way, way too much power. It's [expletive to be supplied by your imagination] done. There is no more communism anymore, nor is it possible anymore. Corporations have amassed far too much wealth to ever permit anything like a communist revolution, save an absolute collapse of...

Re: BOUND. TORTURED. KILLED.

However, the one thing the Nazis and the Left in those days shared was skepticism about capitalism. Why? Because true capitalism requires some level of democracy to preserve the autonomy of markets. Authoritarian governments on the right and the left always restrict markets as their first order of ...

Re: How genetics is settling the Aryan migration debate

I'm aware this is controversial, but can someone explain exactly why its controversial in contemporary India? A common notion for the Hindu Nationalists is that being Hindu is inextricably tied with what it is to be Indian, thus excluding Muslims from being real Indians; they are rather seen as inv...

It might be worth having a look at the different student clubs and societies on your campus if you have the time, a lot of the larger campuses would have a Buddhist club.

.For example, the consciousness at the time of the basis is certainly aware. However, it is only when it knows it's own appearances are its own state, that we can say that consciousness has rig pa, a state of knowledge. If it fails in this recognition, one's consciousness is still aware of those ap...

If we do not manage to discover and remain in the state of contemplation through guru yoga, what does doing guru yoga achieve? Does it at least increase our chances of doing so in the future, to either through guru yoga alone or through rushan and semdzin? Does it also generate merit and purify obsc...

The theory of the necessity of an authoritarian vanguard party is not common to all strains of Marxist political thought, but is particularly associated with Marxism-Leninism. Many Marxists, on the contrary, seek to establish a social order in which the means of production, and all other institutio...

When the Dalai Lama was asked he put it like this: Q: You have often stated that you would like to achieve a synthesis between Buddhism and Marxism. What is the appeal of Marxism for you? HHDL: Of all the modern economic theories, the economic system of Marxism is founded on moral principles, while...
