Re: Death Ceremonies/Rituals in Geluk Lineage?

Glenn Mullins's excellent little book of translations relating to death and dying (I think the current edition is titled Living in the Face of Death) includes a ritual for the dying person based on Yamantaka and his 100 syllable mantra. He says that he witnessed this ritual being performed on severa...

Maitri, translated as loving kindness, covers it for me.

Wishing for others to have happiness and the cause of happiness. Real happiness that is, i.e. dharma.

Re: Hundred Thousand Songs

I'm not a fan of the Garma Chang, very clunky and outdated. I've glanced at the new translation. Seems imperfect, but a real improvement. Ponlop Rinpoche was involved in checking it. Yes, fair enough JK. Chang's translation certainly has its drawbacks. But his pioneering translation was done...what...

Re: New Longchenpa translations from Eric Fry-Miller

Rongzom Pandita stated that the words of Dzogchen are very simple, but their meaning is profound. It seems the hardest task in the world for Dzogchen translators to put these texts into simple language. Much of this is Herbert Guenther's fault. Thus we wind up with absurd neologisms like "ground-pr...

Probably Chelsea this time round. New bloke in charge, couple of very decent new signings and the poison of last season hopefully out of the system by now. Having said that, we may just as easily end up in a relegation fight. Should be an interesting season. So it was the former. And some. Sorry ab...

Re: How to meditate on death?

Thank you all for your replies. I'm working on devising a daily practice for meditating on death. My key question is, "Are you ready to go?", focusing on putting my affairs in order and maintaining the house and property in a state where they will be as unburdensome to those that come after me. You...

Wisdom Pubs has insane shipping rates to Europe, and Wisdom Books has ceased to exist. So, I ordered it from amazon.de for 24,70 including shipping. Seems to be the best option right now, for those interested. Also, free bump for the book :namaste: Yes, great shame about the demise of Wisdom Books....

Re: Yogi C. M. Chen espousing Nyingmapa rhetoric?

Yogi Chen was active a very long time ago, and his "Buddhist Meditation" is now in its umpteenth reprinting. At the time it first came out, it was probably unique in its presentation of key points of major schools of Buddhism; nowadays, with so much good and well-translated material at hand, it is ...

Is there any difference between pre-order on Wisdom Publications and pre-order on Amazon ? (shipments to Europe with Wisdom Pub are huge) It is going to be internationally distributed by Simon and Schuster, so you should also be able to get it from Wisdom Books in England . Alas, Wisdom Books (the ...

'London's answer to the Zeps! : Mr Bottomley's Great Meeting'
My grandmother witnessed the Zeppelin raids over South London in 1915-16, when she was a child.

Seems like a million years ago now, somehow. Bombing civilians didn't work then either.

Re: Any shambhala people on here?

I would like very much if someone could help me the shambhala translation of the seven line prayer to padmasambavha. I used to know it but not anymore and I always liked shambhala's translation. It's like: In the northwest land of oddiyana, you have attained supreme wonderous siddhis, you are renow...
