Re: Selling Dharma Books

Thanks plwk. I think that is a good idea. Alternatively, I am going to a Dharma course in a few months time and might just donate them to the centre.

Best wishes

Selling Dharma Books

I have a few Dharma books that I was going to put on Amazon. Then I wondered whether this was ethical and maybe I should just give them to a charity shop. However, my aim is not to make a profit and I would probably reach a wider audience ie people actually looking for the title if I put it on Amazo...

Re: Community in Western Buddhism

By common folk, I mean people who aren't engaged in serious practice like long retreats, remaining or trying to remain in instant awareness all day, keeping the commitments 24/7 and so on and so forth, probably 99% of the world's population. I see myself as part of those 99% who aren't completely i...

Re: Community in Western Buddhism

Serious practice is serious practice. People engaged in serious practice may not feel the need or have the time to socialize as common folk usually do.

Common folk? Really? Don't know whether to laugh or cry Dechen Norbu!

Re: Community in Western Buddhism

Purplelotus, you are addressing a real concern, a common problem. Can you elaborate a little more on what you posted (shown below) and I think this will help to keep the discussion more about what people can do to make their dharma centers a little more welcoming. All the quotes that people have po...

Re: Community in Western Buddhism

I just feel that we are going slightly off track with this topic. There is a real need for Dharma Centres and what appears to be an institutionalised coldness and lack of caring and concern is an important point. It puts people off the Dharma and it is also a bit weird for a religion that stresses l...

Re: Community in Western Buddhism

I have been involved with two sanghas and found both cold and unfriendly. Initially I thought this was due to practising non attachment but I always found that they could be quite friendly when they wanted something. The first sangha I was involved with for 12 years. I had to take a prolonged leave ...

Re: Buddhist Life & Western Society: possible to conciliate?

While we must always strive to keep our vows and precepts to the best of our ability the most important thing is our motivation. We can get so tied up in agonising whether we acted correctly in each situation that we miss the point. If you are really trying with the best motivation then that is wond...

Re: Lam Rim texts

I would like to just put a mention in for HHDL's Path to Bliss. I think it's a wonderful book and as he says unlock the Lam Rim Chen Mo. I have to say that of the commentaries I have read Geshe Sopa's is my favourite. The detail on Karma in Vol 2 is amazing.

Best wishes
