Re: Cold Showers

Yes there is benefit Johnny. However, I can get the same benefit from walking, yoga and meditation, plus a pure diet, (healthful). I as well incorporate Tai Chi breathing into my practice. Besides those, strength training can be good for meditation. All in all, if one's entire day is spent in effort...

Re: America is hooked on violence

Rick, My point is basically: 1 and 3 of the 37 Practices are nice 1 Right now, you have a good boat, fully equipped and available — hard to find. To free others and you from the sea of samsara, Day and night, fully alert and present, Study, reflect, and meditate — this is the practice of a bodhisatt...

Re: America is hooked on violence

The two I am reading now are 'The Brothers Karamazov' by Dostoevsky and 'A Children's Book of Garden Verses' by Stevenson. When I was 17, Dostoevsky's book really transported me, almost mystically. Now it's a standing work that still is worth reading. I can't even mention anything in relation to Ste...

What we're reading - Split from "America is hooked on violence"

Split from America is hooked on violence. Just take a look at hollywood films. They only know violent problem-solving. Somebody shouts at or kills the bad guy. (I mean, compare Hollywood to Bollywood, or to Chinese movies, Italian or French films... Even German movies are not all about war. ;) ) Bu...

Re: Scientific Evidence of Higher Realms?

Here is a thought I had: the four brahma viharas, which are kindness, sympathetic joy, tranquility, and compassion have been studied for years, scientifically they have certainly been proven for benefit, for instance: Seratonin and a corresponding increase to the immune system are found whenever a k...

Xu Yun's biography (Empty Cloud)

https://wenshuchan-online.weebly.com/uploads/9/4/8/2/9482304/published/a-xu-yun.jpg?1501485200 I read this a few years ago.. It's pretty interesting, or it was.. very cool story .. Lots of humorous things kind of.. a rather dry and subtle sense or humor. He walked a lot, and rebuilt a lot of temple...

Re: What is Mount Meru?

Let’s say that the Gyalwa Dalai Lama might still actually ‘believe’ In Buddhist cosmology. Do you think he would actually admit it publicly? He would be laughed off the world stage because so many people are conditioned by the official scientism-istic narrative. Even though the Dalai Lama is not lo...

Re: What is Mount Meru?

Hi joy&peace Sorry for not responding to this specific question, I thought my opinion was understandable from other posts I wrote. This is a vast subject and I am not sure if I will be able to really explain it in a short post, but I will try anyway. Sumeru is at the heart of Indian mythology a...

Ok. But could we talk about the topic?

If you don't believe it exists, that's all good, but what about those who do?

Re: What is Mount Meru?

Icchantika, what's that?

I do not understand the issue of answering questions.. tatpurusa, what is your view of Sumeru?

Or lately, do you think no siddhis are real?

I would never descry you for any answer you gave.. you should know that ..

Peace and love,
J.

Re: What is Mount Meru?

I'm sorry to hear that. . . Do you think nothing beyond Western science has happened? That siddhis are all logically impossible? To me the Vimalakirti Nirdesa Sutra is one of the absolute best and most wonderful sutras ever written. Have a good day, Peace and love, J I hope this quote is not too lon...

Re: What is Mount Meru?

Well, for what it's worth, you are writing some wonderful posts. Well written and appreciated. I would be curious to know what are tatpurusa's views on Sumeru, but he didn't answer it. Queequeg, one thought that occurs is related to the question, do we all see the same colors? I.e. is blue to me the...

Well, I do not think some people answering one way, and some the other, with good manners, is out of control. Nothing was off topic, or irrelevant, or emotionally charged,. . . . Unless I'm missing something.

Re: What is Mount Meru?

Hi Tatprurusa. Hope you are well. So, I didn't begin with the scientitic view, nor did I end with it. Both views are interesting, and what people believe is up to them. It's quite possible to explore both views. For instance, in Sumeru's Cosmology, does "the world" (located in Jambudvipa) ...

Re: What is Mount Meru?

One of the central points of cosmology that they are stacked, one on top of the other. I.e., Sumeru is not somewhere distant. Does this help? If you think I was saying Buddha was lying, I do not think you understand me very well. The main thing I often say is the importance of truthfulness. Wishing ...

No, I said maybe Mount Meru is like this (the pure land). Then I talked about the scientitic view. Then I returned to Cosmology, the central point.

So the Buddha is lying?
No. I very frequently talk about this. Almost a majority of my posts mention that Buddha said we are in the pure land.
