Re: Naga Offering

I would look in the gZungs 'Dus, the Compendium of Dharanis. Unfortunately, you would have to be able to read Tibetan and there's no really easy, workable way to search the two volumes at TBRC. The gZungs 'Dus does not only contain dharanis but lots and lots of individual mantras (as well as importa...

Re: Dzogchen Community Naga Rite

When I mentioned yang bum and sa bum, the sa bum should go in the ground, not water.

Re: Dzogchen Community Naga Rite

This seems to be the right answer at this time given the circumstances: Since it complicates the practice I asked Rinpoche if it can be done without it just with some other sombolic offering like milk etc. and throwing them in the water. He replied: "You can do Naga Puja more simple way when there i...

Re: Protections

Because many practitioners don't know much about signs of accomplishment when doing mantra/Deity practice, I'd like to give some other common signs. For instance, when doing tshe-drub/long life accomplishment, it is common to measure the long-life arrow on your mandala. Then, at the end of the retre...

Re: Protections

IME, the original reply was very important as was Javier's question in response. Creating amulets, making and consecrating blessings cords, etc. all require that one has achieved the power of mantra through one's practice. These are lay-jor /activities based on having accomplished the approach ( nye...

Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra: differences and similarities

Norsuk Rinpoche's body left so many ringsel even before He died. They would come out in His comb when He combed His hair. I've seen photos of this. After He died, His body was kept for a year and ringsel appeared all over the floor of His room as well as the room below it. Also before He died, He pu...

Re: How to learn to pronounce mantras?

Try this version of the Vajrasattva mantra. No fancy Sanskrit dipthongs or diacritical marks. This is how I learned this mantra from my Teacher. OM BA-DZRA SA-TO SA-MA-YA MA-NU PA-LA-YA BA-DZRA SA-TO TE-NO-PA TE-THO DRI-DHO ME-BHA-WA SU-TO KHA-YO ME-BHA-WA SU-PO KHA-YO ME-BHA-WA A-NU RAK-TO ME-BHA-W...

Re: Hungry Ghosts, Purify Water

According to what I've been taught, the reason for making offerings to the hungry ghosts late in the afternoon or early evening is that it is believed that hungry ghosts are especially roaming around at that time and more easily engaged.

Riwo Sang-chod etc. at Boulder Valley Ngakpa House

Dear Friends in the Dharma, A couple of years ago, Sangyum Kamala asked us here at Boulder Valley Ngakpa House to do sang at least once a month if possible. In light of this, Honora has asked that we do sang this Sunday before Saga Dawa comes to an end. This will be the first "open" puja we have don...

Re: Symptoms Before Vajra Hell

I think Narraboth has a good point. If you've seriously broken samaya which you have not purified and restored, then, at the time of death you won't be able to do phowa even if that had been your intention. Some circumstances will arise making phowa impossible or ineffective. For instance, we have s...

Re: Meaning of different colored meditation shawls

As for lay practitioners (upasaka & upasika) and red shawls, check out Guru Khyentse Ozer on Facebook as an example. Every person who begins ngondro with Him gets a red zen. My Teachers (close students of H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche & Chatral Rinpoche) had all Their students right from the beginning (meani...

Re: Meaning of different colored meditation shawls

In Tibetan Buddhism, all those who have taken refuge have the privilege of wearing the maroon zen/shawl and some/many Lamas encourage this. Unless a Teacher encourages all His/Her students to wear the "ngakpa" or striped zen (zentra), probably best not to wear this until it has been given to you by ...

Re: H.E. Tulku Yeshi Rinpoche in Colorado Jun. 22-24

Kevin, It'll be the short empowerment, not the full-on two-day empowerment. I've received it twice from Tulku Yeshi and both times it was the same. Bottom line, He hasn't scheduled enough time to do the full two-day empowerment. Nevertheless, the empowerment He is going to give will allow you to do ...

He is a Tibetan artist living in Santa Fe, NM trained at Mindroling. He made several Yuthok Nyingthig tormas for me from pics I supplie...

Re: How to raise Wangdu?

According to my understanding, lay-jor and lay-tshog are synonymous. Lay (las) means activity, as in the four activities. Most Deity practices in Nyingma (I don't know about Sarma but I assume the same) have three practice sections: nyen-pa (approach; sometimes subdivided into approach and close app...
