Sangyum Kamala in Colorado in October

Dear Friends in the Dharma, The Queen of Dakinis, Sangyum Kamala, Chatral Rinpoche's Consort, will be visiting Boulder Valley Ngakpa House in Lafayette (outside Boulder), Colorado Oct. 9-12. It is not yet known what public events we will be holding. However, based on past visits, we will probably do...

Re: Thangtong Gyalpo reincarnation

Yes, He lives on the side of hill in Thimphu in a small monastery populated by nuns. When I was there, He was in three-year retreat. So I didn't get to meet Him. However, I know He has been out of retreat for some time. One wall of the lhakang has a diorama (is that the right word?) with small figur...

Re: story details

I am quite sure this story is in Kunzang Lamai Zhaylung. It's the only text my original Teacher ever taught and I know I heard this story from Him during one of these lungs.

Re: DIY prayer wheel

I've made just such prayer wheels. You role your mantras leaving a small hole in the center. You then drill a small hole in the center of the bottom of the can and another the same diameter in the lid of the can. The diameter should be just slightly wider than the diameter of the central rod you are...

Re: story details

That's the story. Three students came to a Teacher Who they wanted to study with. They all already had been admitted by other Teachers as students. The Teacher said that He would only accept those as students those who renounced their former Teacher(s). Two said they were willing to renounce their f...

Re: Remedy Gyalpo

The Gyalpo sung-khor (protection amulet) needs to be consecrated. I doubt if it will provide much protection by simply downloading it from the Internet. Maybe some just due to dependent arising.

Re: Ngakpa International - Vajrayana Training

"As soon, as you are calling yourself by such a title, you need authorization. And this was quite normal even in old Tibet." There is a Lama here in Colorado who taught under his own name for 10 years or more without really attracting more than a dozen or so rotating students. Then his Board of Dire...

Re: Ngakpa International - Vajrayana Training

Several months ago I was talking to the consort of a well-know Lama sometimes mentioned on DW. We were talking about a group that has tried to use this Lama and one of His Teachers for credentialing and legitimization. (Please don't ask what Lama, what consort, and what group.) She said something th...

Re: why vajrayana is denominated vajrayana?

The way I was taught, in Nyingma, tantrayana, a.k.a. mantrayana, a.k.a. secret mantra, refers to all six tantric yanas (as opposed to the three sutric yanas). Vajrayana only refers to the three highest: maha, anu, and ati. Not sure how it is in Sarma.

Shenphen Rinpoche on Reading Dzogchen Texts

Shenphen Dawa Rinpoche : "Dzogchen Misunderstanding I must correct one thing about Dzogchen. Most of you in the West think that by reading dharma books, you will develop understanding of the dharma. While it is natural to read, you will only develop an intellectual understanding. Wisdom, however, mu...

Re: The Retreat Map--from Kongtrul's Retreat Manual

At Chatral Rinpoche's three-year retreat center in Godavari, Nepal, the retreat rooms are all equipped with meditation boxes. So this is not just a Kagyud thing. However, at Godavari, if necessary, you can opt out for a bed. Pero, If you are that attached to sleep, maybe that's the first thing you s...
