Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

We're talking as if the branding of Jetsun Shuksep by Lama Pema Gyatsho was a great transgression and a crime against females. Having been Jetsun Shuksep's student in my last life and one of Her present Tulku's shabji for almost 20 years in this life, I don't see it that way. Just with Marpa and Mil...

Re: How to End Samaya?

You can leave a Lama, but you cannot end samaya if samaya exists between the two you. This is why it's so, so important to know what you're doing when you take empowerment. Everyone runs here and there to take this or that empowerment. While this conveys great blessings, it also comes along with gre...

Yes, Seymo Saraswati Rinpoche has Western students.

You can put the salt in an amulet which you wear, in a small stupa or zi-wu lha-khang on your shrine, inside a statue, inside a stupa, or you can use it as an ingredient in dud-tsi cho-men or other empowered pills, such as tshe-ril/long-life pills.

Re: Kathmandu Help!!!!

Sorry, forgot to give you advice on Tibwetan doctor. There is usually a Tibetan doctor working at the Shechen Clinic next to Shechen monastery. There's also the Kuenphun Clinic off the kora. May consider it the best in Boudha.

Re: Kathmandu Help!!!!

You want to go to Boudha. That's where all the Tibetans are. The Garden Restaurant in Boudha is clean and safe. Never had a problem there. The Vietnanmese restaurant on the kora is also reliable. For snacks and stuff, there's Toast. Actually, these days, most of the restaurants on the kora are clean ...

Re: "You need to know Tibetan to achieve enlightenment in this life"

IMO, forget all this intellectualization, all this discursive thought, all these nam-tok . You're talking as if there is a self-existing objective reality with real true and false, real right and wrong, real past, present, and future, real here and there, real us and them. Just do the practice the w...

Re: "You need to know Tibetan to achieve enlightenment in this life"

IMO, while achieving Enlightenment in this life is a noble and worthy goal, an even nobler and worthier goal is working for the benefit (samsaric) and ease (nirvanic) of all sentient beings covered by the sky. As for learning Tibetan, if one is practicing Tibetan Buddhism, learning to at least read ...

Re: Strategies for Keeping Practice in the West

Two weekends ago, Tulku Yeshe Gyamtsho said something that really caught my attention. He said, "Until you are working for all sentient beings all day every day, you're not yet a Bodhisatva." The implication was that, until then, one is only aspiring to be a Bodhisatva. Forget nirvana; forget Enligh...

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

I have known a number of Lamas who have discouraged their newer students from studying with other Lamas, taking wangs from other Lamas, etc. So by itself, this is not unheard of in Vajrayana Buddhism. The idea is that such newer students will become confused and will not develop deep faith and devot...

Re: Saraswati Terma Masters All Gone?

I don't know about Lama Tharchin's and Lama Pema Dorje's students, but I do know for sure that Lama Dawa did pass on this terma cycle to two of His students -- the entire cycle with all wangs, lungs, men-ngags, and authorization to be lineage holders. He also gave these two students the wang text to...

Lama Pema Dorje

Kye ma! Kye hu!

The Dujom ngakpa, Lama Pema Dorje, entered parinirvana this morning.

A great loss to the Dudjom lineage as well as to all Nyingmapa.

Lama Pema Dorje was Lama Dawa Chodrak's older brother.

Re: Resources for monastic ordination

In the West, people take Holy Orders in, for instance, the Catholic Church. As part of that, they typically take vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience. They enter their Order's monastery or nunnery and then the Order provides for their food, lodging, healthcare, retirement, etc. However, that was...

Re: Sutra for Turning Back Lawsuits & Political Problems

There are a whole bunch of short, very powerful sutras in the gZungs 'Dus, The Compendium of Dharanis in the Kangyur. This has not yet been transmated in it's entirety yet. So another thing that you can start doing, especially at your age, is learning how to at least read Tibetan. I don't have time ...
