Re: Maker Buddha

Maybe want to look at the 84 Mahasiddhas. Among these were a weaver, cobbler, blacksmith, pastry cook, tailor, rope-maker, and boot-maker.

However, your own suggestion of Drub-thob Thang-tong Gyalpo is spot-on.

Also, Damchen Dorje Lekpa is a sometimes blacksmith.

Re: Mirror divination

Here's a Google translation of some of the material about mirror divination at the cite WeiHan linked to. It's quite rough (as machine translation typically is) but I think it contains some interesting info (if you can read a little beyond the words). In particular, it talks about the innate talent ...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

Below is the Mahayana scripture titled the "108 Names of Jambhala." It can be found in the gZungs 'Dus (Compendium of Dharanis) in the Kangyur. It was translated by Erick Tsikonoplous with some editing on my part for my own use. The more times you recite it, the more effective it will be. I recommen...

Re: Mirror divination

R, I congratulate your desire. Sorry to say, I don't think any of Lama Dawa's students have accomplished the siddhi of mirror divination. There was one person in Florida who was interested in developing this siddhi and who Lama Dawa thought might have tra-mig /mirror divination eyes (the in-born pre...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

To the the OP, I will post a Mahayana sutra tomorrow in this thread that can be recited to accomplish basu siddhi . Basu siddhi means the siddhi of wealth. I recommend that you say this instead of the non-Buddhist spell you are/were intending to do. Basu siddhi is one of the so-called common or ordi...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

In Vajrayana Buddhism, we have many practices (mantras, dharanis, hooking wealth puja, wealth vases, wealth pills, wealth Deity sang, wealth Deity sol-ka, etc.) for increasing both spiritual and mundane prosperity. Some of these practices are Sutric Mahayana and some are Tantric Mahayana. In any cas...

Re: student-master relationship in Vajrayana

dear climb-up, if you're looking for a one-size-fits all methodology in vajrayana, i think you're going to be disappointed. as the well-known tibetan saying goes, "every valley has its lama; every lama has his dharma (meaning how he or she does things)." personally, i recommend your finding (or stic...

Re: Why would people delay buddhahood?

although to the person still in the three times, shepherd-like bodhicitta appears, rationally, to be the slowest/longest, it is actually the fastest.

maybe it's because it's easter, but i seem to remember jesus telling his disciples that "the last shall be first."

TB SOP: when doing group practice, the merit is multiplied by the number of people doing that practice, with each individual participant gaining the total amount.

however, ime, to enter samadhi, solo practice usually better/more easily achieved.

"Oh, I am not saying that it should not be kept within the confines of initiation. But the word "secret" in Dzogchen and Vajrayāna in general merely means that these principles are not known in lower vehicles, not that they are confidential like a top secret file." the three teachers i'm thinking ab...

Re: Response to Bernie

ime, whether dzogchen is kept secret or not depends on the individual teacher. i've had three teachers who kept dzogchen extremely secret even though it was being broadcast openly all around them.

bacteria are in the vegetable kingdom. so are not sentient beings in any case by Buddhist definition. (you should've asked about anti-protozoals or anti-helminthics.)

Re: Commitment Issues

some people think the vajrayana is the only way to go. but it's very dangerous if one doesn't do it right. the sutra mahayana is also extraordinarily wonderful and doesn't have the danger. you also don't need a guru in the same way, just a spiritual friend. since you have devotion to shakyamuni budd...

someone is your teacher even if you only receive a single line of Dharma from them. an empowerment Lama is only one kind of Lama.
