What do you think?

What does your Guru tell you about how to view such pleasures? That's the view you should strive to adopt.

Re: Is Lama Chopa a good beginner Gelug practice?

Lama Chopa is a Guru Yoga practice of Je Tsongkhapa which is a Highest Yoga Tantra practice. A better practice for a beginner would be the Guru Yoga of the Segyu lineage, more commonly known as 'The Hundreds of Deities of the Joyful Land' which is a more general Guru Yoga that can be practised accor...

Re: The body and mind of the Buddha is non-dual

Buddha's mind is the Dharmakaya, and his mind is mounted on an energy wind, the very subtle wind, as you mentioned. This wind, which manifested in the aspect of the pure illusory body before he became enlightened, manifests as his enjoyment body after enlightenment is attained. Because Buddha's min...

Re: Gelug responses to these critiques of Tsongkhapa?

You know what? These debates have been going on for centuries - no one is going to change anyone's mind about this, especially these days when everyone thinks they're right about everything. It's a waste of time debating this. Milarepa was right - it's important just to practice and not be overly in...

Re: The role of Mahamudra in the Gelug approach

I guess the question comes up for me: why even read books about Mahamudra, then, if it's really meant to be a guided/taught type of practice? Because reading the instructions creates good imprints in our mind, accumulates huge merit and creates the cause to realize them later. Reading the instructi...

Re: The role of Mahamudra in the Gelug approach

I does seem, though, that the Mahamudra practice you describe really should be undertaken with the guidance of a qualified teacher--and not just Berzin's book. Would you agree? Yes, we need a fully qualified Vajrayana Spiritual Guide, to receive a Highest Yoga Tantra empowerment and commentary from...

Re: The role of Mahamudra in the Gelug approach

Mahamudra is just a different way of meditating on emptiness according to Highest Yoga Tantra. According to sutra, one meditates on emptiness with our gross mind but according to Highest Yoga Tantra, we can manifest our very subtle mind of great bliss using completion stage meditations and use it to...

Re: Help with clarifying the prepatory rites before lam rim session

Im needing some clarification in particular on dissolving the merit field. Lets say you visualize the merit field, make the seven limbs, offer the mandala, and make requests, the guru rests above your crown during your meditation on a particular lam rim topic. Does the guru then dissolve into you b...

Re: Om Ah Ra Ba Tsa Na Dhi

Je Tsongkhapa is an emanation of the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri - his body is the nature of Manjushri, his speech is the nature of Avalokiteshvara and his mind is the nature of Vajrapani, so it's perfectly okay to recite 'OM AH RA PA TSA NA DHI' as an act of devotion towards Tsongkhapa.

The greatest teacher alive is one that is part of a bona fide lineage and with whom you have a karmic connection. I totally agree. Each and everyone one of us has different karma and different dispositions and therefore the greatest teacher is the one who helps us along the spiritual path in the ma...

Re: What Exactly is 'Reborn'?

Greetings and Peace to you all. This is only my second post but it is something that myself and many others, it appears, to struggle with. What exactly is 'reborn' after we (this consciousness and this human body) dies? This is how I see it for now but please correct me or point me toward the right...

Re: Compendium of the Mahayana: Asanga's Mahayanasamgraha and Its Indian and Tibetan Commentaries By: Asanga and Karl Br

It is an intermediate view for those who subscribe to a specific Madhyamaka interpretation. Prasangika is a Gelug idea, so it is quite unrealistic to expect everyone to agree with Tsongkhapa. As for the reason of studying Yogacara, it is the most comprehensive and extensive Indian Mahayana doctrine...

Forgive me for asking, but I’m genuinely curious. Why put so much time and energy into studying the view of the Chittamatrin school which is just an intermediate view rather than studying the Madhyamika Prasangika school which is Buddha’s ultimate intention and the views that lead to liberation and ...

We need to respect all of Buddha’s teachings and those who practise them. The problem is there is infighting between traditions and disagreement about what Buddha taught.

Re: Is there no contradiction here?

On the one hand, after enlightenment, Buddha doubted for several weeks whether to preach the dharma(Four Noble Truths) comprehended by him, calling it deep. And then he preached it to the five cool yogis, his fellow yoga practitioners. On the other hand, today FNT is set out by modern teachers at t...

Re: Lam Rim Discussion: Part 1

I don't see how anyone can claim Lamrim is superior to Lamdre. I don't know Lamdre so I cannot comment but if it is a complete presentation of the path, it is equally precious to lamrim. [Mod note 2023: Whoever likes to continue this topic (on topic) may start a new thread "Lam Rim Discussion ...
