Re: Favourite Professional Sports
The only "professional" sport I sometimes watch is MMA, less often boxing and kickboxing.
I wrestle and watch Olympic wrestling and judo, but technically those are not professional but amateur sports. Professional wrestling like WWE is quite different from olympic wrestling.

Re: Love in the time of degeneration
It's not moralizing or slut-shaming. I am fine if promiscuous people of whatever gender go on and do their thing. I think it is stupid, irresponsible advice, not based on personal experience, if you tell someone who might not be okay with promiscuity in a partner that you're being judgemental, it do...

Re: Love in the time of degeneration
It is really up to you and her, whether you feel like you can trust her. Maybe it's something you just have to talk to her about. In my experience as a male, I had relationships with women who were promiscuous before, they never turned out well. Just my experience. Also in my experience, men who are...

Re: Gemstones and planets in Buddhism
Some people (including Buddhist teachers etc) believe that astrology describes some causal relationships, why do you feel the need to mock it?
The materialist arguments you give might as well be used to refute karma and reincarnation.

Re: Saugata Buddhist Sanskrit chants
It's basically like how ChNN pronounced it when he said Jñāna.Losal Samten wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 1:28 am Do you have a Youtube or vocaroo of jñ being pronounced?

Re: Saugata Buddhist Sanskrit chants
I don't want to argue with you because you have 0 linguistics knowledge. The stuff you mentioned is completely irrelevant. I already know Alexander went to India and the Indo-Greek kingdoms had a cultural exchange. "Gnosis" is not a loanword, it's been with the Greeks since they first inva...

Re: Saugata Buddhist Sanskrit chants
Thanks! I have listened to one of their videos. By the way, as I have heard it the pronunciation of jñ as gñ is quite ancient, because we have, for example, jña -> gnosis, gnostic, etc. Gnosis is a Greek word. Greek is not Sanskrit. It underwent completely separate phonological and linguistic chang...

Re: Active Dzogchen Teachers 2023
"Pure Dzogchen" is some kind of rhetorical strawman no teacher actually teaches, but people use as a rhetorical gimmick.
I think it is better you just find a teacher you can see yourself learning from and then going by his/her teachings.

They outline their approach here: https://en.amarahasa.com/about/ I really like it, it treats Sanskrit as a communicative language, not just to be chanted, but read and spoken. I also like the Assimil Course. This forum post also has a good list of resources: Copy-pasting here for reference: I’m by ...

Came across this.
https://www.learnsanskrit.org/resources/#acquiring
A lot of useful links and resources for learning Sanskrit. In particular, this site: https://en.amarahasa.com/ has a lot of Sanskrit stories for beginners. There is even a Buddhist series.

Saugata Buddhist Sanskrit chants
I came across this randomly:
https://www.youtube.com/@saugatamsanskr ... 7208/about
https://saugatam.org/
They record Sanskrit Buddhist chants and also have courses and study groups. Quite cool, although they pronounce Sanskrit the modern way with echoing visarga, jñ as /gñ/ etc.

It is still not very clear from your post what you mean, can you give an example of how you imagine life as you describe might look like? Patrul Rinpoche lived in a context with very strong support from the institutions in his society; he actually taught at different monasteries for extended periods...

Probably not. 😎 “From an inconceivable beginning comes transmigration. A beginning point is not evident, though beings hindered by ignorance and fettered by craving are transmigrating & wandering on. A being who has not been your mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter at one time in the...

Aemilius, I think this interview will be interesting for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUw5DTN5Lfg He compares a typical Vajrayana sadhana with a Western esoteric ritual. It seems that he actually never seriously engaged with Western esotericism though, just got to know some people in the sce...

Re: Visarga pronunciation
If you read and recite hindu stotras, the visarga actually fits into the meter. there are methods of reciting the visarga. if in front of a p, (for ex: rāmaḥ punaḥ punah) it becomes an F sound: rāmaf punaf punaḥ if in front of a sibilant (s, ṣ, ś), it is dropped entirely (for ex: sarvalakṣaṇa saṃpu...

Visarga pronunciation
I dislike the "echoing" pronunciation of visarga common in most Sanskrit pronunciations, it actually ruins the poetic metre and is not historically accurate. Visarga is a reflex of inherited Indo-European r/s. This is a good native Indian explanation of the right pronunciation: https://www...
