Re: Electronic devices with Dharma materials on them = Dharma materials?
A lama of mine (Tulku Namgyal Dawa Rinpoche, grandson of Dudjom Rinpoche) echoed the advice in the original post, which is that when there is dharma being displayed on the device, treat it as a dharmic object. Otherwise, treat it as a mundane object. I think this is good and sane practical advice.

At least on Android, there is already an Alendar Earth Boar app that has the new year data on it.

Re: Receiving both Buddhist & Bön Dzogchen teachings?
Is it possible to receive both Buddhist & Bön Dzogchen teachings without any major difficulties arising? Seems to be totally fine for the Dalai Lama, so I'm sure it will be fine for you too. I remember asking this to one of my teachers' son once, Tulku Namgyal Dawa Rinpoche (grandson of Dudjom ...

Re: Leaving a teacher (ChNN)
Just wanna third what the last few posters are saying. AGY and SoV definitely didn't click in the beginning, but these practices are profound and subtle. Overtime you come to see just how amazing they are, but it definitely takes a while for many of us like myself.

Re: Leaving a teacher (ChNN)
Are there any practitioners that have received transmission from ChNN but found other teachers more important? From the few retreats I've been at, tons. As long as they do some sort of guru yoga every day (it does not need to be Ati Guru Yoga, but why not, it's so simple), they are maintaining all ...

Buddhist Project Sunshine Phase 3 Final Report (Shambhala/Sakyong Mipham/etc)
[Mod note: Split from here .] For anyone who is curious, Project Sunshine just released a third report. It's really bad. Especially this part: During the summers of 2004-2005, Ann worked in the Sakyong’s household at SMC. Where she was working, Ann had a clear view of the people who came to wait fo...

Re: Is it rare to spew don’t time with you guru?
From Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche's book "Turning Confusion into Clarity": It's common among Westerners to feel that one special guru is necessary, or that they have to be very intimate and tell the guru everything - about family, relationships, money problems, and to ask the guru's advice abou...

Re: Short sadhanas
Dudjom Tersar has many incredibly pithy texts. Lotsawa House has a freely available version of the Daily Practice of Simhamukha which you can find online, and it's about as short of a practice as one could ask for. Also, many of Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche's practices are short, and he teaches ways in w...

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham
It is awful that some consider these people teachers. Some people may feel like "belonging" to some kind of group when it comes to big "organizations" such as these. But I can't understand it. If one is really serious about their practice, then isn't it best to seek out authenti...

Buddhist teacher quit Shambhala in ‘protest’ before his own sexual misconduct allegation went public Not at all surprising. Having met Rinzler I have always been shocked that he is considered a teacher and has been able to get published. The vetting process for "teachers" in Shambhala is ...

Re: Taking Empowerment as a Blessing
I've seen several teachers, lamas, khenpos, etc. frequently state that there's no such thing as taking an empowerment as a 'blessing.' Any empowerment you take comes with the full weight of the samaya associated with it. That being said, it is important to know how to go into the essence of samaya. ...

Re: Leslie Hays says Akong R kidnapped and tortured SMR
A good friend of mine who is a student of SMR told me that at one point SMR spent a lengthy period of time chained to a radiator. So I believe this statement is credible, although my friend did not specify if it was Akong who did the chaining. In any case, it's clear that he had an abusive childhood...

I'm beginning to think that the only crazy wisdom we really need these days is a radical respect towards women that breaks from the patriarchal norm; that actually acknowledges them as not only being embodiments of the feminine divine, but as human beings, too, and therefore their equal rights to e...

Here’s a crazy idea. Go do your mantras and ganapuja. Crazy behavior to shock and awaken is not necessary. So if it won’t help tantras don’t prescribe it. Exactly. I think many people can have a path free of abuse from their "lamas" and reach complete buddhahood. If anything, I think lots...

Re: Intense Guru Dragphur?
How intense is this practice? I found a group of ChNN'S followers in Texas that are able to transmit the practice This sounds sketchy. I would only receive the transmission directly from Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche himself, either in person or through a webcast. Rinpoche gives a world wide transmission ...

I found this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/beyondmeds.com/2018/07/09/comrade-in-madness/amp/ Seems like there were underlying issues, far beyond anything unfolding with SMR or Shambhala: “In 2012, seven years after my penultimate experiences in Cambodia, I experienced three “dissociations” that lan...
