Going by the Tibetan, it sounds like the Yeshe Seldrön.

Re: Which Tibetan Dialect is this prayer?
I did not know, this standard Tibetan exists. Has it any other names? In my city, the Tibetan community sees Lhasa Dialect as the common Tibetan language. Yeah, I'm referring to Lhasa Dialect. I just use the term "Lhasa Dialect" strictly for the form of the language spoken in Lhasa. Peopl...

Re: Which Tibetan Dialect is this prayer?
There is 0 good information about Tibetic dialects anywhere online in English, so I don't think anyone will be able to answer your questions about the exact dialect. I would hazard a guess that the first video is some kind of Amdo lect because he pronounces byin as "sin". Tibetic people mo...

Thanks for the detailed explanation. What you are saying makes sense. I think you've just laid out my study path for next few years. You're welcome! All the best with your study. For anyone who's curious, a translation of the Sumchupa has been posted on the Tibetan Language Institute ...

Re: Methods of learning Tibetan spelling
Yes, there does seem to be a consensus about doing more reading, which I will do, although there is also a benefit in knowing the difference between, for example, བཞི་ (four) and གཞི་ (ground), but I guess the context will usually tell you that. You say "although" -- do you feel that read...

Re: Methods of learning Tibetan spelling
I've never used flashcards and Anki for Tibetan, I hate flashcards and have always found them to be a waste of time compared to just reading as much as I can. With verbs, it may help to learn the eight types of verb root conjugation (dus gsum spyir btang, dus gsum bye brag, etc.) so that you get bet...

Re: Does learning Lamrim Chenmo mean you've learn the other Lamrim by other TB sects as well?
Technically, Sapan and Gampopa's texts are "stages of the doctrine" (bstan rim) rather than "stages of the path" (lam rim). The former are based on Maitreya's Ornament of Mahāyāna Sutras, which begin with the discussion of gotra, or inclination for awakening and conclude with a ...

Re: HELP: Ask for pronunciation and meanings of Refuge Names
As LIngpupa said having 3 syllables isn't common, 4 syllables is more commonly found. If I remember rightly some names from the Amdo region can have three syllables. I haven't come across rgyal as a standalone. There is one Tibetan ruler mentioned on Treasury of Lives which has 3 syllables and ends...

Does anyone use "chö-la" (chos lags)? Is this commonly used? It's the term I learned for respectfully addressing a nun.

Re: What is Enlightenment and why does the Lotus Sutra have the monopoly on it?
The Lotus later relates the actual ritual around the delivery of the Lotus sermon wherein the Tathagata Prabhutaratna appears in his stupa and the buddhas of the ten directions are assembled, and only then is the Lotus sermon actually delivered. But the text doesn't actually convey the authentic te...

rdo rje 'chang vs. rdo rje 'dzin
Is there a difference between the original Sanskrit for rdo rje 'chang and rdo rje 'dzin ? I feel like it must not be "Vajradhara" for both, because why would the Tibetans have used two different words when translating the same name? So, are there indeed originally two separate Sanskrit te...

Re: Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche
I don't know of any controversies around Gangteng Tulku. I along with a few of my teachers have received teachings and empowerments from Ganteng Tulku. I haven't been around him too much, but I was impressed with what I saw. Also Rinpoche has a three-year retreat program for Westerners somewhere in...

Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche
I'll have the chance to move cities in a few months, so I'm surveying the Buddhist centres in the different cities I'm considering. One such centre is associated with Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche. I haven't heard of this teacher, so I was wanting to hear people's thoughts about him. This particular centr...

Death of Shalu Buton reincarnation, Tenzin Gendun Chokyi Nyima
From a notice from Shalu monastery, written in Tibetan, that somebody sent me. I don't know who it's about, but maybe somebody here does. Any errors in translation are my own: " Sad news of the passing of the supreme Tenzin Gendun Chokyi Nyima, nirmanakaya of the omnicient Shalu Buton: Supreme ...

Re: Did zen masters teach seated meditation?
Yes, I agree. So do the later texts that I mention. Those later texts are hundreds of years apart from the early ones, so there is actually a big gap during the Tang era. That is true. Even Huango arguably does, too. He does not. He merely mentions sitting peacefully. But throughout the text he den...

What was your point about them again? That they discuss actual meditation methods. Yes, I agree. So do the later texts that I mention. Even Huango arguably does, too. Starting when do you propose that Caodong incorporated the same kanhua path? I have no information on that. But it seems that the Mi...
