Re: King Gesar - Dharmapala

The first evidence we have of Gesar at all is in a text called Lang Poti Seru (roughly 1450), which sites Gesar in the late 10th to early 12th century as a local chieftain in the Ling region of Eastern Tibet. The modern day tradition of Gesar as a dharmapāla begins with an 18th century terton, Lha ...

Just a fun thing, Prahlad (the name of the yogi) in czech can kinda translate to "ancient hunger".

King Gesar - Dharmapala

Hi, lately I have been introduced to and gotten lung for the practice od King Gesar as a dharmapala. And quite frankly I don't know much about him and there does not seem to be much on the internet about him (especially when one ignores the shambhala as a source). When did King Gesar first appear as...

Re: Dharani to develop mental strength

I also think that mani mantra could be quite enough, especially when you combine it with developing of loving kindness (you can do that with any mantra really). Why? Because mantra is meant to "protect the mind" over time it gives the strength as afflictive emotions are countered by the practice and...

Re: Blessings for rebirth in Sukhavati

What are some effective ways to plant blessings for rebirth in Sukhavati? Does anyone have any advice on any temples that have helped others cultivate or helped loved ones attain rebirth to Sukhavati? Hm, not really a temple but watching sunset motivates me/inspires me to pray for rebirth in Sukhav...

Re: Bad deeds with good intention

The most of the lamas and buddhist teachers... Stop trying to "convert" people to Veganism. You will save a lot of time for yourself and also for others. You will have to live with what Buddha said on the topic. From the point of view of Hinayana it is okay if it is not seen etc., from the point of...

Re: Karmic cause become gay

Okay, I would say it this way. The causes and conditions are really vast and it is impossible to pinpoint what caused what really. We have some idea thanks to the omnicient mind of Buddha and many enlightened masters. Otherwise ... who knows. And who cares really. Some people like to claim that homo...

I think I found the article you meant, Ayu, but your link goes to the site's home page, not a particular article on it.... That writer on Learn Religions, Barbara O’Brien, writes good articles on Buddhist topics. She was the editor of About.com’s Buddhist pages for some years. Is anybody...

Re: Validity of online empowerments

but going back to topic, i see difficult to receive empowerment if one doesn't know how to receive it. ¿how can one be "open" to it if one don't know what's going on? Students are usually "lead through" the empowerments by the teacher. Garchen Rinpoche does it this way and many other lamas too. The...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

Okay, I think there was a misunderstanding. Grigoris did you mean that you did the five ngöndro accumulations five times or that you did the five ngöndro practices 100 000 times? :) I meant I did the 5 practices 100,000 times each. Sorry if that was not clear. I wish I did the whole ngondro 5 times...

Re: Bad deeds with good intention

I have known Buddhists who ...I wouldn’t say they use intention as an excuse... but problems can arise if “intention” is one’s primary criteria. Yes, it is possible to make a half-assed effort at something with the wish that it will benefit all sentient beings. :good: Preach! Let us not forget that...

Re: Bad deeds with good intention

The question is, are bad actions with good intentions justifiable? Also when somebody holds awful believes/does awful things should we assume they have good intentions? I personally don't think so. Very often hate and fear takes the form of "I mean it well". "The blacks should stay in slavery becaus...
