Loppon, after an arhat is roused from samadhi, is it possible for them to fall into the lower realms and away from the Dharma? Or is their cessation of afflictions permanent?

That's my understanding. The reason for rebirth is different than it was before, though: compassion.

That is hard to reconcile with the idea that everything is impermanent, isn't it?
The samadhi of cessation isn't permanent, according to Mahayana POV, so it's all good

Karma burning

I have a question as regards negative karma ripening in our lives as suffering. Several years ago I had a wonderful friend, a lifelong Amma devotee, who suffered terribly throughout her life due to schizophrenia. Great sadness and fear would envelop her out of nowhere and terrifying illusions of dem...

Are there commentaries on Drukpa Kunley Rinpoche's writings? He's a very interesting figure.

Re: Illuminating Quotes by Malcolm Namdrol-la

There is no dignity in samsara, none whatsoever. It is basically just an exercise in constant humiliation.

The Complete Path 7 year course

Thought I'd make a thread about this opportunity since I just became aware of it yesterday and there might be people here who would be interested. H.E. Ratna Vajra rinpoche, son of HHST, is teaching a course one month per year for seven years beginning this August that covers Sakya teachings from su...

I hadn't heard that song before. I like it, especially the gradual progression as it gets less and less optimistic and turns to regret.

Chogyal Namkhai Norbu retreats this summer

Hello, I've been looking for information about ChNN's retreats this summer in Europe and wonder if any of the Dzogchen practitioners here might know more about them or have experience with them. ChNN has three-day retreats in Munich and Vienna in July. Will all instruction be in Italian/German or is...

Introduction

Hello, I first want to apologize for being a major league jerk and flipping out the last time I was on this site. I caused a lot of friction and possible hurt feelings and wasted a lot of people's time. I promise that won't happen again and apologize to anyone I hurt. Anyway, here's my intro: I'm an...

Disappointed with this site

The pervasive attitude on this site is one of elitism, condescension, and harshness. Rather than the users creating a place where Mahayana Buddhists of all levels and traditions can gather for comradery, discussion, and advice, the usual M.O. around here is to attack weakness and assert superiority....

How do you deal with self-doubt?

Recently, I've been overcome with doubt regarding my fitness to practice. Some of it has to do with lifelong challenges in relating to other people and fears of incompetence. And this surge of doubt has coincided with a big work change that's requiring a lot of effort and worry to get going and stab...
