Re: Cold Showers

Wim Hof claims it’s natural and healthy to subject ourselves to temperature variations, as we did through the vast majority of human evolution, because it kind of exercises the arteries when they expand and contract. I also generally follow this mindset. I always rinse off with cold water at the en...

Re: Cold Showers

I know in TCM and I assume Tibetan Medicine people are always talking about how terrible cold is for you. Actually, in Sowa Rigpa, cold water is great for the head and face. I've been told by a Menpa that they only use cold water on their head and face and are absolutely horrified by Americans usin...

Re: Sit-down with Dudjom Lineage Lama

Asking for Three Root and Yidam sadhanas before finishing ngondro is inappropriate. That's up to the Lama's judgement that one is asking. Just my two cents. Even if it is inappropriate, it's not like the lama is going to punish you or something. Worst case, it will be a learning experience.

Re: Sit-down with Dudjom Lineage Lama

Hi Thomas, What type of offering would be most appropriate? I was already planning on offering a khata, should there be a monetary offering as well; or maybe something else? A monetary offering is probably the safest option if you don't know the lama well and what the lama likes. Offering a khata i...

Re: Sit-down with Dudjom Lineage Lama

The Troma Nagmo cycle is considered to be very important within the Dudjom Tersar tradition. It's quite advanced and has its own ngondro that you typically wouldn't do until after completing a standard ngondro, but you might want to request something related to that, at least for an auspicious depen...

Re: Tibetan mountain protector

From what I can make out of it, the Wylie would be "de wjin byed pa smra byed pa". Really unsure of what that means. "byed pa smra byed pa" doesn't like a name to me, but I don't know much Tibetan. That phrase looks like "do what you say you do" or maybe "does what...

Re: "I didn't ask to be born."

Let's go there... How would a Buddhist deal with that view? Perhaps more seriously, this would be used as fuel for cultivating renunciation. And then that renunciation is a fuel for Dharma practice. Eventually, through Dharma, one abandons the eight worldly concerns, and then they are free. They ca...

That's a feature, not a bug. You want centralised organisation, consider Roman Catholicism.

Re: "I didn't ask to be born."

I hear this from people time to time. They're usually depressed, or prone to depression. Generally, they seem to think life is an imposition. It plays out in all kinds of sad and destructive ways. What's going on in the thoughts behind that statement? How does one get out of that view? You have to ...

Find a teacher. Cross check their pedigree to ensure that they are lineage holders. Follow their instructions. Leave your beliefs and opinions outside the door. There ya go. It’s not easy. But it is simple. Here is the OP, Note ‘It’s NOT easy.’ Note ’check that their pedigree to ensure that they ar...

Re: Finding Your Guru

Here's my question on this subject: When one finds a teacher they feel a connection to and have gone through the whole examining the teacher process and have confidence, how does one ask them to be your teacher? Maybe it's not necessary to ask them in a formal way to be your teacher, but is it help...
