Both work great for me, the only issues I've ever had have been with another user's hardware or internet connection, not the service itself.
I've heard that DC members in China regularly do tshogs online, but I don't know if it's through either of these services or something else.

Re: tibetan buddhist monasticism in the west
Ethnicity, cultural paradigm, whatever. In this case I think they amount to the same thing. Your words. Not mine. Yup, sure are. Wasn't trying to make it seem otherwise. If people want something that coincides with their rational and western academic perspective they're free to practice any of the ...

Re: Termas and Cultural Paradigms
I predict a "scripture only" orthodoxy movement for Theravada westerners and a logic driven Nalanda type Buddhism for Tibetan Buddhist westerners. E.g. instead of "this guru/lineage founder/sutra says this; therefore it is correct" it will be "this is correct because of a, ...

Re: tibetan buddhist monasticism in the west
I said nothing about ethnicity. I said cultural paradigm. Inevitably people ask, "Okay, so where did these treasure teachings come from?" It does require faith, especially from a rationalist perspective, to believe such treasure teachings were left behind by past masters and that they tru...

Re: tibetan buddhist monasticism in the west
I don't see what a practical emphasis on treasure teachings or early canon has to do with ethnicity.Huseng wrote:justin.hudgins wrote: Why should it?
Because we're not Tibetan and the cultural paradigm is completely different.

Re: tibetan buddhist monasticism in the west
Why should it?Huseng wrote:Right, but that might change in the new environment.Sherlock wrote: Actually for most Vajrayana practitioners, treasure teachings (both Indian and Tibetan) are more critical than the shared early sutras, at least for practice. For shared dialogue, the early canon is of course important.

Pith Realizations of the ZZNG Masters
Hi, all. I saw that Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche will be giving a retreat titled "Pith Realizations of the ZZNG Masters" in Crestone, CO, in late September. I live in Colorado and was thinking of attending but I'm entirely unfamiliar with this and was just curious about the background, what sor...

Re: Who should attend DC webcast?
I recall Rinpoche saying in the last couple webcasts that you can never take an empowerment as a blessing and it always involves samaya. And considering that, as far as I understand, direct introduction is the 4th Empowerment, rig pa'i rtsal dbang, it would seem to imply that samaya is involved in r...

If you've got the money, I think this one looks nice. http://www.samadhicushions.com/Meditation_Puja_Table_p/s-525.htm Failing that, you could always get one of those folding breakfast-in-bed tables. http://www.amazon.com/Winsome-Wood-Breakfast-Handle-Foldable/dp/B0046EC1D0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qi...

Re: How much $ are weekend retreats these days?
I'm not married nor do I have a regular job, so I'm unfamiliar with the difficulties presented by either of those, but why not just reschedule your vacation and attend Rinpoche's retreats? You spend a decent amount of time with your wife anyway and who knows when you'll next have the opportunity to ...
