Re: Kettlebells - perfect exercise

I’ve been wanting to implement the ‘Turkish get-up’.

Been slacking on the gym lately though; but I’ve been wanting to try the ‘Turkish get-up’ because it seems to be a thorough core and full body training.

Re: Being healthier

Try a keto or zero-carb/zero-sugar diet temporarily. It’s not a good long term diet at all; but doing keto or zero-carb temporarily, even if you eat a lot on it for the first week or so, will help you to become fat-adapted; and once you’re fat-adapted, it’s very easy to not eat, or put another way l...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

It seems that Khyentse Yeshe and Chögyal Namkhai Norbu’s daughter are the only ones authorized to give complete transmission. He says no one is authorised. /magnus I was referring to the post someone posted sometime time ago where ChNNR himself was quoted as having said that his son and daughter ar...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Apparently, the son of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and Tulku of Jamyang Khyentse Wangchug doesn’t even believe in rebirth. If this is true, it’s pretty disappointing. I myself admittedly sometimes question things like rebirth and so on. But if you think about it, it’s at least much more logical than etern...

Re: If daimoku doesn't fix everything and therapy is recommended, then why do daimoku at all?

I recall a guy in the gakki who was full blown schizophrenia hearing voices in his head and a doctor told him he would have to learn to get used to it.. He met with Gohonzon became a strong chanter and he met some person who told him of this therapy in chicago for people with his condition. the the...

Re: bad dreams after reciting sutras ?

Well Ksitigarbha is a Bodhisattva related to helping sentient beings in the hell realms, right?

There may be some connection there to that.

Tibetan and Google Translate

Interestingly, if you paste Tibetan letters & words by translating from Khmer (the first one I tried) or Chinese—or seemingly any language that does not use Roman letters—it gives you the Wylie. Someone there has obviously been entering Tibetan into the system. Now I wonder if eventually we would be...

Re: Music time

There was a house I lived at when I used to drive uber/lyft a lot as a side job, and I’d listen to pandora and that^ track would come on pretty regularly; and at that house I’d see a guy walk by almost everyday who dressed like the above Viking of Sixth Avenue, carrying a rod of sorts with a rack on...

Re: Historical Buddha

That’s too funny. I was thinking just today about some people possibly being bots, and the various implications of what icchantika’s could be. “Icchantika refers to a class, or "lineage" (Sanskrit, gotra), of beings who are beyond all redemption and lose forever the capacity to achieve nirvana” But ...

Re: Lion’s Roar: A Celebration

Hm, I’ve seen bits & pieces, here & there, of what’s in that wikipedia article.

I don’t get the anti-vaxx thing there though; as anti-vaccination is a anti-authoritarian thing, whereas Karen is portrayed as the epitome of authoritarianism.

Re: Age of Mahayana Schools

This is true. There is this thing going on a lot in modern vajrayana. Folks just get empowerments. But what is meant to happen is an empowerment, full transmissions of all the sadhanas and full instructions on the practices. That way a person knows what they are doing and when to do it. Right. But ...

Re: Age of Mahayana Schools

...But Vajrayana also does not believe in the efficacy of renunciation (or more to the point: it does not consider it the most efficient manner to achieve liberation). That puts it directly at odds with the Sravakayana. From another thread: The offtime yogas of sleeping, waking, bathing, clothing, ...

Re: Age of Mahayana Schools

The Yoginīsañcaryam states: Further, when in a later time, in the last age siddhi cannot be obtained… …having understood this Dharma as such, all that one intends will be completed. Are you implying here that this text is saying that in the Kali Yuga, we’ll be unlikely to attain relative Siddhi’s, ...

Re: Tamers of Beings

I think it’s arguable that, if, through their omniscience, enlightened beings know how we’ll use our agency in any given circumstance and act and manifest in infinite ways accordingly, there is an extent to which it is “all them” from a certain perspective. The Vimalakirti Sutra speaks about how bo...

Re: Why choose Mahayana over Vajrayana?

Zen/Chan may explain some channels or cakras similar to more outer-level Taoism; but not nearly as detailed & specific as Indian & ZhangZhung Buddha/Bön-Yoga. Of course Zen has its own teachings RE these things, and what is practically meant by the oft-repeated (in Zen training halls) slogans that ...

Mind blown^.

I say that half-jokingly; but that’s a very good question/koan.

Maybe some relevant quotes are in order here soon....
