Re: Dalai Lama commends New Zealand prime minister and gun law reform

Jerafreyr, I more or less agree. At the same time, the Dalai Lama has to be very diplomatic in the things he says for the sake of Tibet and of Dharma; because when he speaks, many are listening. I see much of what he says to the clueless ‘masses’, as expedient or skillful means, not always definitiv...

Re: The argument of astrophysicists against astrology

Well these astrophysicists can’t have it both ways. For example flat Earthers will argue that the Pole Star hasn’t moved for thousands of years, whereas it should have by now if the correct cosmology looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/QEB37og.gif Then astrophysicists have, if I’m not mistaken, rep...

Re: Lifespan of a thought

I don't know the sutra it's from, so this is just a thought, no pun intended. The Buddha is said to have stated that several thousand thoughts transpire in the time it takes for a blink of the eye. It is either the duration of a moment or of a thought that is said to be 1/64 or 1/65 of a finger-snap.

Re: Veganism is an Eating Disorder

Anyway, if you can spend the rest of your life more or less in solitary retreat, and start eating fruitarian as to eventully graduate to living on breath & sunshine; then by all means do it. I doubt that this is impossible. Please don't spread this living on light theory. People have already died t...

Re: Veganism is an Eating Disorder

Ok, so which does a Buddhist give priority to, the suffering of worms and bugs or the suffering of people? Which is more deserving of our attention and concern? Ultimately, all sentient beings equally. Relatively, no one knows the answer except for fully Awakened Buddhas. Until then, it is up to th...

And, replenish first your stomach flora with the superprobiotic known as gcmaf. It has 40 to 44 probiotic strains derived from yogurt mixed with bovine colostrum. Store-bought yogurts have no more than 8 strains; and would cost about the same if eaten everyday (do the math). Check Marsvenus.com. Thi...

Re: Veganism is an Eating Disorder

Question for the vegans in the crowd, would a vegan refuse to eat insect-derived protein on the grounds of vegan principles? Would a vegan consider an insect to be an animal? I’ve met vegans who say that bees put in the work to make honey, so who are we to take it from them. But plants seem to try ...

Re: Nonbuddhists taking the bodhisattva vow

The higher always includes the lower, therefore taking Tantric commitments automatically includes Bodhisattva vows, and making Bodhisattva vows automatically includes Refuge. And as posted above from the Surangamasamadhi Sutra, the force of taking the Bodhisattva vows is very strong, even if one is ...

Re: Nonbuddhists taking the bodhisattva vow

Papayin* Māra's attempt to trick the Buddha by taking the bodhisattva vow to gain access to the Buddha's presence resulted in Papayin Māra's prediction to complete Buddhahood (Śūraṅgamasamādhi Sūtra) *It’s actually spelled Papiyan or Papiyas Anyhow, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche also said regardin...

Re: Is this legit? What is the source of this?

I’m not sure if the article is right about this, but if the abrahamists could make golems, then I’m sure that the followers of the Buddhas could produce automaton too.

Re: Buddha Shakyamuni and Dzogchen

From your own threads, Kalden Yungdrung: Bon has a link with Buddha Shakyamuni and Garab Dorje. Buddha Shakyamuni is called in Bon Sangwa Dupa and does belong to the Uninterrupted Lineage. “Tonpa Shenrab was said to have already been enlightened in his celestial pre-existence as Chimed Tsugphud ('Ch...

Re: Buddha Shakyamuni and Dzogchen

The first of the twelve primordial teachers is Tönpa Nangwa Tampa, the last one is Buddha Shakyamuni who didn’t teach directly Dzogchen teaching. Indeed among the twelve teachers someone taught the Dzogchen teaching directly, someone indirectly. Buddha Shakyamuni did not transmit the Dzogchen teach...

Re: Buddha Shakyamuni and Dzogchen

Tashi delek, As Bönpo. do i have the question, if the Nepali Buddha Shakyamuni would have thought Dzogchen. This because His known Teachings were mainly written in a kind of "Pali" script , later on palm leaves during a certain Buddhist Council. - Dzogchen Script is in Sanskrit or Tibetan / Zhang Z...
