Re: Vajrayana purification split from "Second hand mandala offering set"

Also, maybe it wasn’t quite proper of me to mention the story about the Gelug monastery here (Dzogchen practitioners reading this feel free to chime in here; maybe I should request that post be removed and I can repost it without that part); but if anyone here is not interested in Dzogchen, then you...

Re: Vajrayana purification split from "Second hand mandala offering set"

About my previous post, if your Teacher(s) hasn’t/haven’t told you anything about this, it does not mean that they don’t know it or that they’re not right for not explaining it to you. Every Teacher has their own emphasis on what and how they teach, and so one should follow that. If however you’ve r...

Re: Saka Dawa 2019

Thank you Nicholas. That makes sense. Then it seems that Saka Dawa begins on the 1st Lunar Day of the 4th Lunar month (incidentally the Anniversary of Sangye Lingpa). I don’t want to invent something that doesn’t exist; it just seems logical that the multiplying effect of the Month of Saka Dawa grad...

Re: Vajrayana purification split from "Second hand mandala offering set"

The main preliminary practice, which can also be the Main Practice if you understand the principle, is the GY/LN (I don’t like to abbreviate the names of Masters like many do, but I will abbreviate the names of practices on open forums like this). You can practice the GY/LN for everything, the Main ...

Re: Saka Dawa 2019

The full moon will be 17 June, so until and on that date is the time to do, think & speak good. Merit is multiplied many times over.... Does Saka Dawa begin on the 7th Day of the 4th Lunar Month (Anniversary of Birth of the Buddha) and end at the peak of the Full Moon on the 15th Day? (Anniversary ...

Re: Bon Dzogchen

Everyone feels they have an unbroken lineage. So you may be convinced that the Bon lineage is unbroken, but obviously, such a thing is a question primarily of faith in the teaching, so Vajrayana practitioners also believe they have an unbroken lineage.... So, we have to deal with the fact that ther...

Re: Modes of Liberation

Yes of course the Bardo texts are for practitioners attaining liberation in the Bardos. The Four Modes of Liberation described in The Golden Letters are also for practitioners. The six specific liberations (grol ba drug ldan) mentioned in the Bardo texts, are for helping non-practitioners to have a ...

You’re not necessarily wrong Grigoris.

But man the Rolling Stones suck.

They’re almost as obnoxious as jam bands.

yet they don't belong to the same transmission. Ultimately they do; like I said, the transmission of Kuntu Zangpo or Samantabhadra. Beyond that, it’s a huge topic and not so easy to trace the relative and specific transmission connections, or lack thereof (see Chögyal Namkhai Norbu’s The Light of K...

Well it couldn’t be an mere coincidence. Both streams of Dzogchen are from Kuntuzangpo, therefore in the end that is all that matters right:

Re: Bon Dzogchen

Tönpa Shenrab Miwoche appeared sometime between the appearance of Ngöndzog Gyalpo and Tönpa Garab Dorje (the latter a emanation of Shakya Thubpa (Buddha Shakyamuni)):

Re: Bon Dzogchen

Bönpo Dzogchen is from Tönpa Shenrab Miwoche, not from Tönpa Garab Dorje. In ‘New Bön’ there is some connection to Guru Padmasambhava. Also there is what is called the Bön of India, but I do not think that it has any direct connection to Tönpa Garab Dorje. There was a Bönpo called Zhang Zhung Garab,...

And the bardo thos grol liberations are I think the only exception to Longchenpa’s and Khunu Lama’s implications of first reaching the First Bhumi in my signature. 🧐 🙂

Re: Modes of Liberation

The Bardo Thodrol Five, Six, or Seven Liberations (one of them being By Hearing that you’ve mentioned here) is different than what John Myrdhin Reynolds is talking about in The Golden Letters. The Liberations described in The Golden Letters are for practitioners only. The Bardo text’s Liberations, a...

Many soy-based veggie meat substitutes are made with hexane, a potentially harmful chemical. Check out this guide to those U.S. companies which do and do not use hexane in the processing of their soybeans. https://www.cornucopia.org/hexane-guides/hexane_guide_meat_alternatives.html THIS^. Re: Marxism and Buddhism

The Marxist economical model (at least in theory) is not incompatible with Dharma, imo. But I just don't see how you can square dialectical materialism with the right view. This^. And I think that the Dalai Lama is just using some skillful means when he says things like this. In my opinion,...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

Vitamin A Plant sources are pre Vitamin A, and animal sources are active Vitamin A. From what I understand, with plant sources you’re only going to get about an 3 to 6 percent conversion from pre-A to active-A. That’s an whole of kale and carrots to eat. And an whole lot of oxalates, and too-much-fi...

Natural is irrelevant to what is good or not good. Your logical fallacy is appeal to nature

If something is natural, it’s not guaranteed to be good.

But if something is unnatural, it’s pretty much guaranteed to be not good.
