Re: Naga Smoke Offering

Not familiar at all with this, but I know someone who might be. His nickname is Naga Chris because when he first came to Nepal he was doing a PH.D. On the Nagas in general. Now he hangs around Boudhanath with White Gonpa people and spends a lot of time in his adopted Villaige in Helambu. I can try t...

Re: Tibetan Traditional Medicine

In general, the kinds of medicines imported into Tibet from India were things that could bear portage, thus, things like triphala, etc., were imported and form an important part of Tibetan materia medica. But herbs proper could not survive the journey, and in any case, were not necessary, since the...

Re: Lama's that teach 100% rentention

Renunciation is the foot of meditation as it is taught, and what greater to renounce than one's sexual gratification? Saving a being's life is greater than renouncing sexual gratification. Renouncing harming is greater than renouncing sexual gratification (thus embracing the First Precept). Renounc...

Re: Tibetan Traditional Medicine

well sounds like you do, thanks for you contribution. No I have not REALLY studied Tibetan medicine. As to wether or not tibetan herbs are more effective, well, I feel I have tried both traditions equally for my own health, and have better experience with ayurvedic herbs in the health problems I've...

Re: Tibetan Traditional Medicine

You really have no idea what you are talking about. Edit:you know what I am not going to argue with you about the merits of the two and which are greater. Let's just leave it at that really I am just recommending ayurveda to this person because of the readily available English literature on it. It ...

Re: Lama's that teach 100% rentention

I first came in to this forum all over-the-top on some new-age-wannabe-Buddhadharma that takes one aspect of Tantrayana sexual practice and runs with it as if it's the be-all end-all of everything, not knowing much about the importance of the secrecy of Vajrayana; and even though there may be much ...

Re: Lama's that teach 100% rentention

Can someone pass me the name's of some conservative Lama's that are 100% against any ejaculation no matter what part of the path the student is on and flamboyantly espouse the dangers of it. And if anyone here doesn't like this type of teaching, doesn't think it's legit, wants to tell me their opin...

Re: Tibetan Traditional Medicine

Consider how limited varieties of herbs were in Tibet. You really have no idea what you are talking about. Edit:you know what I am not going to argue with you about the merits of the two and which are greater. But I certainly could, and I think even win, this is not the place for that. Back to the ...

Re: Tibetan Traditional Medicine

All I can say is that Tibetan doctors undergo at least as much training as western doctors, and I think might even be in school even longer. It seems very complicated. In Asia, I pretty much went whenever I was experiencing any malady. I have a lot of respect for them. In fact I would claim there is...

Any. pretty much. What a precious master. One of my top favorites for sure. But here is the one I really recommend. ISBN: 188184742X The Precious Treasury of Pith Instructions (Upadeśa ratna kośa nāma/Man ngag rin po che'i mdzod ces bya ba). Translated by Richard Barron (Lama Chökyi Nyima). Padma P...

Re: On the Root guru

In the film "Tulku", there is a passage where the young tulku Wyatt discribes how his guru looked at him. Nobody looks at you with such eyes, with such love. I can relate to that. My lama is able to look at me purely, with the eyes of a father or mother with simple love and nothing else. ...

Re: On the Root guru

The teacher who most moves your heart I would +1 this but that would be too vajrayana even for me. It may teach you the most sometimes to follow your heart, but often our hearts and minds are equally deluded. This can get you in so much trouble. I would have to trust lineage, esteem, and all that o...

Re: Does Karma explain everything.

Simply put yes , everything that happens is due to previously or co occurring causes. That's just common logic. And what karma means is not some mystical form of moral merit System whereby people are punished for their evil deeds in the same way. This modern western buzz wording is totally incorrect...

Re: How do you do multiple things while reading Dharma?

How does one simultaneously read Dharma and uphold the other factors that are appropriate to uphold when reading Dharma? For example, generating Bodhichitta while reading, the 5 wrong ways of remembering: - Avoid remembering the words but forgetting the meaning, - Avoid remembering the meaning but ...

There has been a lot of talk about this in the Nyingma community I have lived among in Nepal. the discussion seems to have been concluded with 95 percent skepticism that this is legitimate. It seems pretty much true that that rinpoche declared him a tulku. Before going any further i'll remind everyo...

Re: Reciting the Vajra-Guru mantra in reverse

never heard of this. Doesn't sound like normal practice and I'd stay away from it. Hate to presume too much, but I'd presume it was a one time thing as described in whatever account that is.
