Re: Order of Buddhist Contemplatives

by Jikan » Thu Nov 01, 2012 2:26 pm The OBC (with major centers at Shasta Abbey & Throssel Hole and elsewhere) has come up tangentially and indirectly in many discussions at DW. So far, this has only produced diffuse and disconnected claims, occasional contradictions, and accusations of misrepr...

Re: Treeleaf Sangha

There are probably others here who can tell you about the threats of lawsuits or other harassing emails and intimidation they faced from Jundo. I only heard of these lawsuits and emails second hand. Yes, I also know about that, and he has discussed it. I believe that involved events and what was pe...

Re: Treeleaf Sangha

Jundo is on the SZBA list? I don't know what the SZBA is but I would urge everyone to not take accreditations as much. Ad to use that as a resume. Jundo is more like a team leader maybe but more than that, and I admit I do cringe at the institutions that are now Zen Buddhism. Oh here is what Brad Wa...

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act will be reintroduced on 2/13/2013 to the United States Congress. :stirthepot: Basically, the bill makes it legally possible for companies to share any of your info with anyone else, anonymously and with immunity to legal action, even if there is a m...

Re: Treeleaf Sangha

In fairness to Jundo and the other named teacher, it is nice of them to do what they are doing, and judging by the many posters, it is heartening to see how popular they are amongst their group. Good for them, good for Trealeaf Zendo. Thanks to you for voicing your thoughts here. On some of the poin...

Re: Shopping for a tradition

What gets lost in the process? The opportunity for the teacher to turn the student's world rightside-up. Why? Because the teacher is put in the position of giving the student what he or she wants, and not necessarily what he or she needs. What else gets lost in the process? It may be that some teac...

Re: Shopping for a tradition

Like all else in meditation, in the end, we just have to listen to, and trust our intuition. Only a genuine master can differentiate. As to the 'trust yourself' line, yes and no, yes in general, no when it comes to delusion. Cue the current LA killer who has sworn to defend is name and truth. Can y...

Re: Treeleaf Sangha

you have been hitting the Treeleaf line for a long time now, I am no fan of Jundo and would not take guidance from him myself, but the reality is this whole world sees things differently. Almost all of Treeleaf Sangha is here to defend the group, and if they find it useful, then who are we to argue...

Re: Sutras: which books/books?

There is only one book worth reading: the Heart
- Ajahn Chah

Failing that, there are many good Suttas around. Go with your school, study a little, and practice a whole lot more.

Well wishes,

Re: Why was E-Sangha controversial?

E-Sangha enforced a conservative view of Buddhism and those who held a different viewpoint both resented that and being moderated when they expressed that disagreement. How neatly capped, Jinzang. Are you sure that any of the words such sectarianism, dogmatism, non-transparency and abuse of power d...

Re: "Zen is Going to Hell and It’s the Boomers’ Fault!"

I haven't found the trick to make myself thirty years younger, or to change my race. So I guess I'll have to continue being one of those old, white Boomer Buddhists. I'd like to think I have something to say. Maybe I should write more on my blog, develop an audience of Internet savvy millenials, wh...

Re: Why was E-Sangha controversial?

Before Namdrol et.al took over, it was a great place with fantastic dialogue, excellent members and an open, constructive place for dialog. The first death knell was when teyes took moderator decisions "offline" and without that transparency, all things started losing. This is what happens...

Re: Treeleaf Sangha

think that for those with no possibility of access to a "real-space" Sangha, this is an interesting and potentially useful idea. Personally I have reservations about Jundo but they are mine and if your practice there is strong, that's the main thing. All the best. I would agree with Dan74...

How smart do you have to be to be enlightened? Can even a stupid person of low iq get it, and is it easier or harder for them? Also i read about the different "capacites" of different people. Do people of higher capacity need extra help? Because reading various buddhist bulletin boards, i...

Re: Buddhism in China?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj7Q-3RFbro This gives the cause for some hope. Apparently the practitioners in these mountains were so isolated that they were unaffected by many of the social and political upheavals of recent Chinese history. I found it very touching because it shows in a very tang...
