Re: Vanished threads list

Occasionally one comes here to look up a discussion only to find that it has vanished in the night like a political dissident. Armed with some basic survival training, a despicably bad sense of humor, and the stoicism of Buddhist practice and philosophy, it's possible that such threads could surviv...

Re: What's going on in this video?

Those people look very devoted to the Dharma. The umbrellas are a bit out of place absent rain, but something is raining down, which explains that. Otherwise, I'm not sure why this video stands out to the OP. Looks like devotional activity.

Re: Tulsi Gabbard

Certainly the way the Dems have forced this shutdown is appalling, but people are right to be upset with the situation and individuals on the opposing side of whichever political position. Our President is always the center of controversy, so it's to be expected that those who have a unique viewpoin...

Malcolm doesn't want to talk to me anymore.
Have you tried not doing that? Something just as simple as that could bring a lot of clarity to your outlook, reduce stress, and contribute to your overall well-being exponentially.

Not talking to people who avoid you, I mean... That's what I meant...

Re: Confessions of a Zen Zealot

Can't see any point at all in the anecdote, as such, but I think it's worth giving the homesite a mention. A misleadingly quasi-sociopathic introduction to a story that starts out with an anecdote about childhood that segways into an exhortation to practice Buddhadharma. It seems terrible u...

Confessions of a Zen Zealot

https://thetattooedbuddha.com/2019/01/09/confessions-of-a-zen-zealot/ Much to our mischievous glee, as they opened the door, the snake’s lifeless body rolled out of the doorway and onto the step that one of them was occupying. The first lady screamed and almost knocked the second lady down trying to...

Re: How does the Buddha eat?

"How does the Buddha eat?" Gracefully, gratefully, calmly and thoroughly chewing each bite? The fact that I've cleverly sidestepped the actual question here regarding the physics—and for that matter, metaphysics—of the question entirely should be no issue if we look at many of the responses given b...

Re: Reaching Eagle Peak

Well, my understanding was that, so long as one keeps faith in the Lotus Sutra, one return to meet the Buddha when one dies. There's also mention of "The Land of Tranquil Light" in the SGI translated gosho that I've read. Regardless, it seems that it's a bit like the Nembutsu in that, if you chant a...

Re: Gohonzon for sale at Walmart?

I once read that, in the Ottoman empire, you could buy a woman for less than the price of a horse. I think this kind of thing says something about who we, as a society, are. I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in the Central African Republic and is visiting his folks back here in Greece, an...

Reaching Eagle Peak

Does chant the daimoku guarantee that a practitioner will reach Eagle Peak upon their death? If not, then what conditions must met according to Nichiren? What actions will definitely prevent this reunion with Lord Shakya?
