Re: Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Has Attained Parinirvana

My heart goes out to all of his students. May you all be inseparable from his wisdom mind. And a special wish for those for whom this is a first, painful lesson in impermanence from your teacher. For people like me who have no special qualities a departure like this is so full of grief it's ...

Re: Latest report on Shambala abuse just released.

I truly feel for all that are suffering. How would any of us act under the ripening karma and circumstances that we find ourselves in? Indeed so. As the great 20th century philosopher Jim Morrison said, "No one here gets out alive." Compassion is key for everyone involved.

Re: Situation of Kalu Rinpoche

I can tell you what I know from my own experience and what Yangsi Kalu Rinpoche spoke in my presence. I had the honor of meeting him and spending some time with him around the time of his 21st birthday. I was also fortunate to receive teachings. Rinpoche has been totally open about the abuse he suff...

If you put this alongside his repeated call for a secular ethics based on universal human values then it makes sense.

Here's a stab... They're not masters. Depends on how you define a master. A Buddha? Probably not. On a Bhumi? Maybe. Something else? Who knows. What, specifically, would make one think these individuals were not awakened? Specifically. 🤔 In detail. Not so fast. First Queequeg should explain...

Re: Assisted Suicide and euthanasia: Non-Buddhist views

The author of the blog in the OP is a Canadian and devout Catholic and is coming at it from a perspective where RCC doctrine is being violated. He is apparently also had a rough personal time with the suicide of his sister-in-law. I know a number of people in the Netherlands and they think his view ...

Re: Independent investigation confirms “physical, sexual, emotional abuse” by Sogyal Rinpoche

The cult I am more familiar with has permitted previously expelled sex offenders to ordain again and to teach once again as leaders of the organisation. Why? Well, because they are holy beings and thus 'beyond karma'. I suspect this has been invented as an excuse based on the 'crazy wisdom' nonsens...

The full report seems to be very well done and is painful, sobering reading for me. When a teacher is getting violent and angry... is that some sort of trance like the oracles? What a mind f**k. I would think that an oracular trance would be full of phrases that need deciphering and/or would contain...

Here's an article from Halifax: "How many knew of Shambhala abuses? " https://www.thecoast.ca/halifax/how-many-knew-about-shambhala-abuses/Content?oid=16830135 . A good question. The article also mentions that Winn is working on a Phase Four of the report which will touch on "historical harms in th...

Re: Latest report on Shambala abuse just released.

I finally had some time to sit down and read all three phases of the BPS reports. They make for grim and depressing reading, at least to me. I've had no direct involvement with Shambala except to buy their very-well made Samadhi Meditation-brand meditation cushions. I do have friends and some involv...

I was a at a Chöd teaching once when the Lama was asked about finding a charnel ground if they lived in the city & could not get to a cemetery or other kind of place. He said to go to any McDonald's.

Re: Dharma government?

Islam was surprisingly ahead of it's time in terms of social welfare and taxation. There was a system of taxation even more progressive than today as it demanded a percentage of assets not merely income to be redistributed. They had pensions for soldiers and widows that are good even by today's sta...
