Re: The left is no longer liberal

JD, and how about the part where he talks about Majid and Ayan Hursi Ali being put on the SPLC's list? Unbelievable, right? Considering Ayan Hursi Ali is a well known fraud and propagandist this is entirely correct. Every detail about her Ali's personal history she provided for for the purposes of ...

Re: Rus-Tibetan Buddhism

"Bakshi " is a corruption of "Pakshi", as in Karma Pakshi. They were followers of Karme Pakshi (Karmapa 2), better known today as lamas of the Karma Kagyu sect. I don't think so. To begin with, the word without doubt comes from Chinese roots. Please cite sources for the claim that all "bakshis" wer...

Re: Rus-Tibetan Buddhism

P.S. It is probably an oversimplification to say that Mongol Buddhism is the same as Tibetan Buddhism. I was just reading a book edited by Vesna Wallace (also known as a Kalacakra scholar), "Buddhism in Mongolian History, Culture, and Society", which points out some important differences. Of course...

At the same time, people seeking a better life - now as in the past — clamor to live in the United States.
People tend to migrate to places where capital is concentrated.

Re: Victims of Communism

Okay, from a certain viewpoint you are right. 24% of the population are still a minority. But they are many people though. They are not a rarity. In the former DDR/GDR (German Democratic Republic) there have been also good things and it's no crime to be romantic about them. But it is very dangerous...

Re: Victims of Communism

Some people from the former east block grew to real haters of communism. They are not a minority. Actually, according to many surveys, the real haters are in fact a vocal minority. Most people when surveyed, including the former DDR according to one recent survey, have views ranging from the much m...

Re: Victims of Communism

I've lived through (the end of) so-called Communism in the USSR, albeit as a child, but let me make it very clear, it was not all bad. This is why there is so much nostalgia back in those parts for 'the good old days'. Of course everything you think was pretty much true - the Communist Party was pr...

Hi,
Nirveda wrote:A friend translated this date for me into Tibetan:

There is a small typo in your quote above. ཚས་པ is missing a ཨེ. It should read
མེ་སྤྲེལ་ལོ་བོད་ཟླ་༤་ཚེས་པ་༦་
Typo aside, it is the sixth day of the fourth month of the year of the fire monkey.

Best,

Re: Seventh Root Downfall, Academia, Public Life

I ask because I do seem to encounter people with a more hardline view, i.e, that non-initiates of all types are forbidden from hearing the technical details of practice, seeing the mandala, etc. This is the traditional Indian way, but much has changed. This is largely a show among Tibetans, since y...

Interesting. Do you happen to know what particular Vajrayana practice or lineage these babas are connected to? Not sure about the babas in question, but Gendun Chophel reports meeting Indian tantrikas that were practicing Cakrasamvara in the 1930s. OK, thanks for the info. Do you have a reference? ...

Wow, this is the first time I have ever heard someone who calls himself a Zen teacher completely discount traditional Chinese medicine, yin/yang theory, and the opinions of the very founder of the school he purports to be an heir to (and who obviously put in a lot more practice time than he has), a...

Hi, The third quotation I brought up is actually decontextualised (and thus apparently misread) by Duckworth, not me. Actually, I didn't read the quotation carefully or in the context that Duckworth placed it in. I was searching for the quote on TBRC and didn't find it in sems nyid ngal gso , but di...

Hi, I don't know the context of the first two quotes you provided but for sure the third is not being read in context. I have even come across a passage of Longchenpa's in which he defines the relationship between consciousnesses and wisdom exactly as Dolpopa does (my italics): Proponents of Mind-On...

Re: Yale Students sign petition to repeal 1st amendment

Very disgusting to see what academia has become. Nothing but left leaning brain washing institutions run by washed up hippies from the 60s. You really are out of it. Universities in the US have swerved right since the late 70's. This idea that American universities are filled with hippy professors ...
