Re: 簡 & 集

簡集 is a compoun\d: https://cidian.wenku1.com/%E7%B0%A1%E9%9B%86/ from that definition it simply means "review and combine". 於此經中總有三分。初明能觀智次舍利子下辨所觀境。後以無所得故下顯所得果。 所以無序及流通者於諸般若簡集綱要 。故唯正宗無序流通如觀音經不具三分。 Aaaaah. Thank you for that resource. So 簡 when it appears in 簡歷 is more in the sense of "review of lif...

Re: Praetorian Guard starting to move?

If it came to that, the 1% wouldn't constitute a single decent snack for the 99%. And then it would be back to hunter-gatherer. :stirthepot: Once you've eaten the 1% a new 1% appears. The trick is just never stop eating them. Eventually the 1% will be the 100%. It's better than moving the 9...

Re: 簡 & 集

Malcolm quoted a translation of this passage already: Since [this text] selects the essential outlines from all the Prajñāpāramitāsūtras, it has only the main chapter, without introduction and conclusion, just as the Kuan-yin ching (Avalokite$vara-s^tra) is not composed of three sections. An Englis...

Re: 簡 & 集

Yeah, I figured that might be the case

It was largely based on it's usage in 简历 more or less, and too much guesswork.

I think 諸般若簡集綱要 is something like 諸般若 many prajñāpāramitā 簡 manuscripts 集綱要 [ I] collected [from them] essential points IMO that is more likely but I am also likely to be wrong My "manuscript" idea looks sillier and sillier. https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=81&p=461672#p461647 Also it is pur...

Re: Jayarava's New Thesis on Heart Sutra: Sanskrit Version Deliberate Forgery by Tang Chinese

Then of course there is this from Wonchu'ks commentary on the Heart Sutra: In other words, when Wonchuk wrote this, there were already two translations of the Heart Sūtra in circulation, an "old" one, and one revised on the basis of a Sanskrit original by Hsuan Tsang. This fact is mentioned by Wonc...

Re: Praetorian Guard starting to move?

What has been or is being destroyed in American civil discourse is the idea of principled opposition . This is the essential idea of allowing for a range of viewpoints and differences of view which can be accommodated even though they plainly disagree. Or we could just literally consume the flesh o...

Re: Jayarava's New Thesis on Heart Sutra: Sanskrit Version Deliberate Forgery by Tang Chinese

Something worse is going on. I just followed his citation, T33.543.b.18, and it has this "諸般若簡集綱要" I think he misidentified the verb altogether. But I am not an expert. Neither is he, though. Like, I think the verb was 集. Looking at the larger context - the interlinear commentary (thanks for linkin...

Re: The Antiquity and Novelty of the Lotus Sūtra

Well, the Karashima paper makes a good argument for the stūpasaṁdarśaṇaparivartaḥ Ch 11 being a Gāndhārī section, at the very least in its outward cosmetic description of Prabhūtaratnabuddha's stūpa

Re: Jayarava's New Thesis on Heart Sutra: Sanskrit Version Deliberate Forgery by Tang Chinese

The wording used by Woncheuk is 簡 "selected, gleaned" from 諸般若 "various Prajñā(pāramitā sūtras)" (T 33.543.b.18). But this is not what Wongchuk says. Something worse is going on. Re: Buddhahood of Insentient Beings Exclusively East-Asian?

There is another precedent for the Buddhahood of Insentien[ce], but instead of coming from India, it comes from Theravāda modernism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOtP4S4nm_k In case we do not want to watch the whole video, an interesting quote that sums up his position (IMO) is The difference bet...

Re: Buddhahood of Insentient Beings Exclusively East-Asian?

The Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana has the following passage, which I believe is very relevant to this discussion: In its very origin suchness is of itself endowed with sublime attributes. It manifests the highest wisdom which shines throughout the world , it has true knowledge and a mind resti...

Re: Praetorian Guard starting to move?

I was watching "Who is America" last night and was surprised to see Baron Cohen interviewing a real-life modern day Roman citizen. Someone who actually gets to vote. It was that disgustingly rich couple he talked about periods too, while being a brilliant rip-off of a far-leftist. It was even more a...

Look at this In case the original is modified, it says: Maybe you can find more out of Ven Yin Shun’s work. I can get by in Middle Chinese, but I can’t read Mandarin at all. Re: Buddhahood of Insentient Beings Exclusively East-Asian?

There might be a difference between pratītyasamutpādaḥ 因緣法 & pratītyasamutpannāṃ 緣生法 as it relates to which "one" of them "is" emptiness.

But maybe I am talking nonsense.
