Re: Nyasa in buddhist or bon tantras
Newar Buddhists practice Nyasa in a similar fashion that Hindu Tantric practitioners do. Very interesting! So, by similar fashion to Hindu tantric practitioners, I'm imagining the typical practice structured with the viniyogah, rishyadi nyasa, kara nyasa, anga nyasa, and then dhyanam of deity befor...

Re: Nyasa in buddhist or bon tantras
You can find ou there some articles on the "Cakrasamvara Trisamadhi" it includes brief description of the Nyasa of the three/four wheels of deities of the Chakrasamvara Mandala.

Re: Nyasa in buddhist or bon tantras
Nyasa (as defined here , i.e. the "installation" of various deities and mantras in the body) is a very important practice in various "hindu" tantric schools. Yet, strangely enough it seems to be rarely mentioned or taught in buddhist or bon tantric schools as a separate, dedicat...

The Pure Land Teaching is and always will be extremely important in this degenerate age doesn’t matter what is debated here on Dharmawheel All dharma teachings are important in this degenerate age. Lopon, what's your take on Mipham views on "other power", He has some treatises written on ...

Re: Is Shingon lesser because it has less tantras than Tibetan vajrayana?
I am a Brahmin who is a Vajrayana practitioner. In our times, most Brahmins are Hindus and a substantial subset of which do not actually adhere to purity precepts unless it is a Brahmin that inherits the priest or pandita lineage through family and practices the same precepts. So, I think it is not...

Hello everyone! I haven't posted anything in a while but yesterday I converted to Honmon Butsuryu Shu. So far, from all I've learned, it's been an incredible experience and my priest is being very helpful. He even shipped me a Gohonzon and juzu beads for free, which is more than awesome. I hope you...

If you practice by yourself, study hard and expect to find people to learn from sooner or later, as well as people who will learn from you. Until you do, you can always hang out with us and the forum can be your sangha. I used to be a more frequent member. But everything is impermanent. I may end u...

It's confucian in nature, but I think The Temple of Literature or Văn Miếu, is a mandatory visit for Honoi!
Re: Lineage
Shingon seems far more accessible than the tibetan traditions. On the contrary; unfortunately only a handful people in the entire world teach Shingon to laypeople openly. I thought Shingon was largely a tantric lay lineage? Do you mean teach to UNINITIATED laypeople openly? They are not ordained as...

Re: Can I mix Nichiren with Shinto? Isn't mixing practices bad?
The term "Shinto", like it or not, is defined by history. That history includes deification of the Japanese imperial family who is said to be descended from Amaterasu, and is now soaked in the blood of an aggressive war that killed millions across Asia and the Pacific. Young Japanese thre...

Re: Can I mix Nichiren with Shinto? Isn't mixing practices bad?
"But there are still obscure sects that connect Ise with Buddhism, sects that identify itself as Shinto. That's one of the points I'm trying to highlight here, Shinto is not a simple reduced phenomena as you seem to imply, reducing it to State Shinto." This I do agree with. State Shinto, ...

Re: Can I mix Nichiren with Shinto? Isn't mixing practices bad?
I would add as a further challenge - Go to Ise, go to the Naiku and start chanting Daimoku as a dharma offering to the kami. See what happens. AFAIK, Buddhist monks are technically actually not even allowed to enter the shrine premises. That's how heavy they are about the distinctions. This is mode...

Re: Can I mix Nichiren with Shinto? Isn't mixing practices bad?
The word "Shinto" as you point out has been around, but it didn't take on the meaning generally ascribed to it now until the Meiji period. Before that, Buddhism and kami worship were closely and almost seamlessly mixed. When they started using "Shinto" it was part of their delib...

Re: Can I mix Nichiren with Shinto? Isn't mixing practices bad?
I am well aware of the place of kami in Nichiren Buddhism. I also know that kami are protectors. They are not Buddha. Very big mistake to confuse those two functions. Like I said, people can do what they want. Chanting daimoku to kami does not fit in Nichiren's teachings. Why? And can you elaborate...

Re: Can I mix Nichiren with Shinto? Isn't mixing practices bad?
To answer the second question - Mixing practices - we need to define. NMRK is a single pointed practice. If you confuse it with other practices, yes, that is bad, for you. It will bring confusion to your mind. For instance, directing NMRK to a fox spirit (inari) (this is a practice you find at some...
