Chan is
is not meditation.not for politics, religion, dishonesty, lies, cheat. No student no teacher relationship illness. Chan is the stick that beats you very hard it hurts but you will drop all of that luggage. If you find that irritating then your only concern is dreaming and you have been fed demon’s s...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
You are not always in tune with him. This is the nature of Samsara and self blockage/karma. So you are not correct.

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
Hold it! Let’s clarify something. Our heads get hot here. Your argument is exclusive other power. How do you maintain faith without a form of Pure Land practice? This means that there is self effort if you maintain a form of practice: recitation or visualization or mindfulness, etc. How do you see e...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
It works according to Master Shandao…Faith and Vow to take rebirth in Pure Land. No single minded concentration needed. Faith has to be maintained and this is the effort of practitioners. Recitation or mindfulness of Amitabha Buddha is maintaining that faith.

Re: Two truths in Mahayana Buddhism
The two truths can be understood through yogacara (Lankavatara Sutra). The world we live in the is made up of thoughts. Dharmata of Buddhas is made up of pure consciousness. The example given by the monk I was watching his video is: the ocean is nature Dharma body, the flowing current is pure consci...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
Yes, what they are connecting with, trying to see, in Chan is Buddha-nature. It is potential Buddhahood, but it's not itself exiting saṃsāra. It is just seeing something on the side that is outside of saṃsāra. What I am trying to emphasise by bringing up Buddha-nature in the context of Pure Land is...

No. You don’t have 32 marks and you don’t have all the siddhi but you have insights to transform yourself and others.

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
So Sravakas=Bodhisattvas=Heaven beings=Human beings=Exact Same Wisdom? No.Sir. No, the sūtra is saying quite emphatically that there are no realms in the Pure Land. The words are only used as an "analogy." In reality they all attain bodies of thusness. In Chan, it’s “breaking” free of con...

Suppose the ocean is calm, then there is flowing current, from flowing current, there are waves. So then what truth is this?

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
1) There are human and heavenly beings who possess virtues and wisdom of Bodhisattvas. The question then are they Bodhisattvas? If so, then why are they called human and heavenly beings. So do you agree that the grades depend on levels of recitation attainments: single minded concentration, higher,...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
Point one: keep in mind that Pure Land has human and sages. So it depends on the practitioners as well. The Pure Land does not have the six realms, all there have the same form and faculties: ... those beings will be born by transformation spontaneously, seated with legs crossed, in the seven-jewel...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
It’s matter of different aspirations. In your view, there are no aspirations needed and not much needed to except Faith, Vow to take Rebirth, and Practice recitation. Cool. For others they might appreciate non-regressive awakened state before they take rebirth in Pure Land. But by same virtue of no...

It’s not how much one recites. It’s at what state of mind when mind recites. Very important here.

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
I wonder how much of that is found in Japanese as opposed to say, Chinese forms of Pureland. I don't see a strong aversion in Chinese sources about practicing multiple paths, often Pureland with Chan. Initial research suggests that the narrowing of practice and exclusivism seems to be more of a Jap...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
I’ve said many times: the quickest way towards Buddhahood is to go to a Pure Land. The Bodhisattva path is never a self power path. This is awakened to Mahayana faith. One can attain a emptiness samadhi beyond samsara (10th stage or whatever) doesn’t mean they have all the technology to liberate sen...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
I don’t disagree much with what you said there though it’s unclear sometimes whether you are arguing or agreeing. But nothing major here at least you agree one can attain non-regression before they take rebirth in Pure Land. There is a Vietnamese monk well known in Vietnamese Pure Land community who...

Re: Vows 48 and 18 and Bodhisattva of Amitabha Buddha
What are you trying to say with this post? I don't understand the point it's trying to make. Is it simply a statement of your faith? The point is most Pure Land practitioners focus on 18th vow as soon as other vows are brought up they try to dismiss them immediately. It doesn’t have to be that way....
