Re: Karma Chagme & Neydo Kagyu

Hi Karma Jinpa I hope I am not making a mistake here, but I know Chagme Rinpoche quite well and have (through the Dakinis kindness) received teachings and empowerments from him. He was always very kind and whatever time of day I would come he would be reciting mantras. One of the most exemplary Lama...

Re: Vajrajapa / Guhysamaja Question

Hi Lama Tsewang: I am sorry that my answer was not clear - The Shangpa Kagyu Guhyasamaja is the same as any other (Akshobya Vajra is central). I was trying to say that the Shangpa Kagyu Lineage is different and did not pass through Marpa, Mila Dvagpo etc is all. The Shangpa come from Niguma to the T...

Re: More Trungpa talk

Hi, after all this time this conversation is still going! There is one thing that perpetually leaves me perplexed (to quote an earlier post) "So let's see. Was he certified "good" by a respected Kagyu authority? Yes, by none other than the 16th Karmapa, one of the last true great maha...

Re: Vajrajapa / Guhysamaja Question

:namaste: Essentially the Kagyu Guhyasamaja is the Arya tradition. There is an exception to this and that is the Guhyasamaja transmitted in the Shangpa Kagyu line. Kagyus also transmit the practice Akshobyavajra (blue) as the central deity in the 32 deity mandala of Guhyasamaja (Arya tradition) whic...

Re: Guruyoga Bringing Dharmakaya Onto The Path

Strictly speaking, if you have had any major empowerment, you would be qualified to practice such a sadhana - guru yoga Otherwise if you are on the moon suppose, with no one better to ask, then with a mind fixed on refuge, Bodhicitta and with devotion to the Guru you can't really go wrong. As for ge...

Re: Is there such a thing as almost pure evil?

Apropos to Greg's quote, the reference is never to an evil person but to evil as an action, thought etc or possibly an outcome. We humans tend to Anthropomorphise most of what we can't understand. Maybe we need to, to be able to work with the great unknown - the great mystery that makes up the world...

Re: Is there such a thing as almost pure evil?

This is interesting. It seems though that there are a lot of cultural issues hiding behind the concept of evil. If anyone is interested it is woth checking out the work of Dr. Philip Zimbardo for evil caused by humans. Zimbardo does not belive there are evil humans. Now, the dominant Judeo Christian...

Re: What is Kagyae Initiation?! (HH DL)

Thank you, that is interesting.

I guess one could assume from that that Vajra Kilaya is (at least in the Nyingma tradition you refer to) the main yidam and the contemplative practices of Trekcho and Thodgel are the trolam.

Best of wishes

Re: What is Kagyae Initiation?! (HH DL)

Thanks Cone, Yes I see the point you are making especially with Gonpo Chagdruk Nying shuk. Although I have received the empowerments I am not very knowledgable on this system. The Nyingma I have exposure to, but I have not been involved with heavilly beyond pointing out instructions etc. The Kamtsan...

Re: What is Kagyae Initiation?! (HH DL)

Hi Cone :namaste: What do you mean by "Pretty advanced yidam practice?" My understanding is that Kagye is the primary yidam practice(s) in the Mahayoga tantras of the nine yanas system. If you mean that one has to have completed Ngondro and perhaps other practices before then I see what yo...

Hi Admiral, "In all my births may I not be separated from the perfect Guru, And so enjoy the splendour of the Dharma Perfecting the stages of the paths and Bhumis, May I speedily atain the stage of Vajradhara" This is my memory of the Nalanda translation commitee translation of that prayer...

Re: Gyalwa Gyatso / Red Avalokiteshvara / Jinasagara

Hi Cone, I am not trying to be intentionally evasive but I have not been able to get a straight answer or anything definative on this issue. I proposed exactly your question to Thrangu Rinpoche maybe 20 years ago and he said no, both (9 and 5) are "Father Tantra". Bokar Rinpoche and the re...

Re: More Trungpa talk

Jampala & 0thers, You are quite right! HHDL has always warned that you must examine a guru before you take major empowerments and commit yourself. I apologise as I didn't know you were one of Trungpa Rinpoche's chelas. If I am mistaken, and you are not, then what is the point of arguing about hi...

Dear Dharma Siblings, This is a free forum in that we can all express out opinions within agreed guidelines. So now we know that various members were not or are not taken in by what was cutely referred to as "the Trungpa Myth". Ok but maybe it is time to agree to disagree as I sense acrimo...

Re: Gyalwa Gyatso / Red Avalokiteshvara / Jinasagara

- The Lineage for the Nine Deity Mandala is slightly different to the five and Drogon Rechen Chenpo as a pre-incarnation of the first Situ Rinpoche is more a devotional thing much like Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye are traced back to the time of the Buddha and great teacher...

Hi Kirt, I fully subscribe to the view you have suggested - which I guess is what Je Tsong Khappa was getting at. It seems from a practitioners point of view, it is really an academic issue for scholars. PS I have discussed this with many Lamas other than mentioned (for eg Tenga Rinpoche, Tr...

Re: Gyalwa Gyatso / Red Avalokiteshvara / Jinasagara

Here is a point to "bake one's noodle" (excuse the plagiarized quote please). The Gampo Abbey account says that "Lokeshvara Mahakarunikaya Jinasagara Avalokitesvara" ( Tib: Jigtenwangchuk Tug je chenpo Gyalwa Gyatso Chenrezi) - to refer to Him with the full name used in the Manda...
