Re: Photographing the Gohonzon

what I'm getting at is IMHO there are no magic powers in the gohonzon- all the human revolution and ichinen comes from the practitioner. I view the gohonzon as a mirror- A mirror? maybe? in the sense that there is nothing on gohonzon that one cannot develop , and put into balance. Point being why i...

Re: Photographing the Gohonzon

It's not the printing itself that I have an issue with. Someome who just prints one off the Internet does so with no connection to a teacher or a sangha. It's not a talisman. It doesn't have magic powers. If there is anything i learned it is not to judge the motives, or the actions of anyone who in...

Re: Photographing the Gohonzon

as per the opening of the eyes ceremony...is this process available online..i mean really now...if you are a person who is a strong believer..and very respectful of all things Nichiren dharma....could you not do the whole opening of the eyes ceremony by yourself...we chant and recite the sutra..we m...

Re: Photographing the Gohonzon

I think this prohibition is silly and exoticizes the Mandala Gohonzon. On the other hand, I sort of bristle at the idea of printing one off the Internet. There's a fine line. but it's ok to print them off elsewhere. Like the various organizations do .. it's like the internet finally affords the wor...

Re: Ex SGI members and Itai Dosshin

what is the real difference between shakabuku and shoju. I never really got heavy into hell fire and brimstone if you don't join..i always kinda did it with honey instead of trying to destroy the person's present state of paradigm.. is that it or is there more to the subtleties of shakkabuku...encyc...

Namu/from Eagle Peak Blog

I got this link from another thread and went to what i think is the opening page of this site. Why Namu instead of Nam i've never given this much thought but this blog makes a point . So when did we actually drop the Mu in namu . how do you chant without deleting a character in the this is interesti...

Re: Question about Burning House Parable in Lotus Sutra

Can someone tell me if there is an accepted expedient device of the sutra and a non expedient device in the sutra. Expedient Device = Upaya = Provisional Teachings Provisional Teachings are fully embraced when Opened by the True Teaching, ie. their real significance is revealed in light of the Budd...

Re: Ex SGI members and Itai Dosshin

Odd enough i met someone last night who just moved to Toronto from Seattle. She originally is from India and we talked and I mentioned i was into Buddhism. It took me by surprise but the first words out of her mouth was if i was a SGI member. Usually people from India do not associate Buddhism with ...

Re: Question about Burning House Parable in Lotus Sutra

Instead of cut and pasting your posts...lets just say you have decided that it never happened. this whole talk of the stories being lies and the Buddha lied is just absurd. So, you're saying: 1. I don't believe in the Ceremony in the Air. 2. That I am calling the Buddha a liar. 3. And I hide behind...

Re: Question about Burning House Parable in Lotus Sutra

this is what Q has denigrated it to. Right, so because I point out that a text that calls all other teachings of the Buddha an expedient might itself be an expedient, I'm the bad guy who has taken all the wonder and mystery out of life and destroyed the religious life.  Instead of cu...

Re: Question about Burning House Parable in Lotus Sutra

So in the thread we have a worry about a tale we know is a parable about being lied to...and then of course other parts of the Sutra that I'm sure in the former and middle days of the Law people believed with all their heart and soul that it happened. I'm sure Nichiren Daishonin even believed the S...

Re: Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

So a little bit of context here. I'm a baker and I've taken to listening to the mantra of Green Tara at work. I work with a young lady whose rather sick of it (she has not expressed this sentiment to me). She does not work directly beside me and I never force anyone to listen to it if they don't wi...

So , i'm reading and reading...
in the mean time..

what about Daimoku, the practice...the medicine as you put it...thoughts on that in accordance to the Ceremony in The Air is nothing more than fiction

Re: Question about Burning House Parable in Lotus Sutra

The latter days of the Law are upon us folks. when we do Buddhist Tantra we visualize ourselves as various Buddhas holding various things at times, and then we do stuff with light and all along we try to make it as real as possible and believe we are this Buddha doing this at this moment in time. If...

Erm you are forgetting these scrolls were retrieved from the safe keeping of the Nagas. just saying.... Yes. Of course. There's a goat cart waiting for you outside Minobu. Go get it now before the goat wanders off! of course then there is the question as to what Lord Nagarjuna actually experienced ...
