Re: My explanation of emptiness

I feel that people over intellectualize Sunyata . We take the translation of Lord Nagarjuna , without being there, live, with Him as a Teacher giving a lecture, and we run with it in a very fixed conventional way of looking at the world. The point is usually missed. The point of the teaching from Lo...

Re: My explanation of emptiness

Sunyata is simple enough yet took me about five years of contemplation and teachings from Rinpoche to get it. The emptiness Lord Nagarjuna taught us is this : Samsaric "Reality" is at the same time has the aspects of existence and nonexistence... it's somewhere in the middle. Nothing is inherent as ...

Re: Varying pronunciations and formats of gongyo

Nichiren accepted sutra recitation, and discussed the thrice repeated 10 factors from the Hoben chapter. The selection of other chapters sed in gongyo seems idiosyncratic to the various lineages. Nichiren also accepts meditation on ichinen-sanzen and other Tendai concepts, likewise contemplation of...

Re: Varying pronunciations and formats of gongyo

Firstly there is no Gongyo or Gongyo format discussed in Nichiren’s Teachings. Secondly there was no Gongyo performed by Lay Believers before the early 1950’s when Josei Toda petitioned Nichiren Shoshu on behalf of The Soka Gakkai. I deal thoroughly with Gongyo here: https://dharmawheel.net/viewtop...

Re: How does it work?

The only Buddhist sect I am aware of where people pray (chant) for material benefits in this lifetime is the Japanese Nichiren sect. . . IDK, I've seen corners of Vajrayana where wealth deity practice could turn into a really esoteric form of Prosperity Gospel, just sayin'..I've definitely seen the...

Re: How does it work?

Actually, the reason I had this impression is because when I visited a Soka Gakkai group many years ago and mentioned to an elderly Japanese woman that I studied Tibetan Buddhism, she replied, “oh, that’s all talk about death. You chant Myoho Renge Kyo and you can get a car, a big TV...anything you...

The only Buddhist sect I am aware of where people pray (chant) for material benefits in this lifetime is the Japanese Nichiren sect. . I asked a Tibetan Rinpoche during a question period in a meeting this: If the Buddha said do not ask for help from any god or demon or even Me why do people come he...

Re: Call for prayers for peace

I recall the Dalai Lama saying there is not any text written that says world peace will be achieved. He continued saying that does not mean we should not strive for it, Then of course the prediction that Buddha Maitreya will come when the average age is ten years old due to the fact the world will h...

Re: Time For A Republic.

You guys are talking about the same monarch. How do the Quebecois feel about that? I suppose if the monarchy is abolished in the UK, the royal family could all move to Ottawa and join Harry and what's-her-face. Well Quebecers are divided. Here's one quebecer who was there. He explains the use of th...

Re: New “White Lotus” Gohonzon for SGI?

for my money changing gohonzons is a lot like seeking it outside myself. . My own thoughts are such. You are right on to always question if you are looking for this Gohonzon outside yourself....as indicated by Nichiren Shonin.. But what is it ??? He was referring to. The whole Gohonzon...like the g...

jah hūm bam hoh

Each of those words comes with it's own Mudra .
You use it in Tantric Arts when you are asking for a deity to enter your heart chakra through the top of your head.. Your calling forth from the Pure Land .

Re: The profound meaning of Nichiren's Daimoku

I would like to point out that it is not Nichiren shonin's ODaimoku.

This is just the words used to access something that has always been there.

The Buddha made that so.

thoughts ?
