Re: The most comprehensive analysis of Nichiren Lotus sutra Buddhism on the Net?

Excellent piece . what a great find .TY. So it really makes sense out of a lot things that have been said lately here at DW. As per the Mongol invasion. He semi predicted this and I always thought the divine wind was the work of gods friendly to Nichiren , as what happened on the beach where they wa...

Re: Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokiteshvara) in Nichiren Shu

Like I said, that is not the Nichiren Buddhist interpretation. Maybe not understood, but any chanting of the Lotus Sutra will imbue you with the qualities of all mentioned in it. also the fact this is The Bohdisatva Nichiren prayed to all night one time to be the wisest person in Japan. So yeah I w...

Re: We Are All This Luminous Mind

I read it, but it sounded to me like a lot of confirmation bias and scripted realizations. This is the Zen forum, so no playing in the sandbox with you today, Malcolm. :coffee: I am not criticizing Zen. I am talking about the content of the article. Unless for some reason only agreement is allowed ...

I look at Nichiren as a whistle blower. He knew who he was and told us. He also initiated the true course of the Lotus Sutra or the Buddha we call MyoHo RenGe Kyo.
Like all buddhas that have a name with meaning.

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

Personally, I think the "real" Nichiren - the one who we can make out beyond his written words - is a whole lot more interesting than the 2 dimensional heroic cartoon character he often presented himself as. I missed this. Well QQ can you explain further for this hurts me to see you say s...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

Please note, that I have been grossly mistaken that Tendai teaches 3 nembutsu chants and easy entry to a pure land. They don't teach this , this something other in another sect. I apologize and hope no one has been grossly affected due to my ignorance on the subject. Trust QQ...should be my mantra. ...

Also, Nichiren was an Imperialist - he wanted to see sovereignty in the Emperor. There's also evidence he was by family in some sort of vassal relationship with the Imperial house. And critically, he was saved from execution by a representative of the Emperor. There are two narratives about his bac...

Nichiren and modern day use of philosophy

Why did this religion surge in the west? Why do mostly everyone in the Buddhist community worldwide become aware somewhat or gain full blown knowledge of Nichiren's religious views.? Why do people in the Buddhist community world wide really get annoyed with this philosophy? I ask these questions for...

Re: I read Ongi kuden chapter 16, and it left me a little perplexed..

Painting Nichiren as some kind of loon boon yelling in the streets might be a fun bit of character assassination . Lets not forget who was really at his side. He had the ear of some nobility. He had the protection of a god on a beach one night. His ideas were probably only really held to account by ...

Also I think that Nichiren was in a conundrum where he could not speak out to the full extent of why he left TenDai, and created almost an entirely different philosophy and process. They tried to kill him and he got exiled and stuff for a reason that might be lost on QQ. I suspect that the Daishōni...

[...] I wouldn't say the number is irrelevant. A dharma of enumeration still carries significance. The Master chose ten for a reason, certainly, but not because there was an intrinsic "10ness" to the Buddhist cosmos. The phrase "dharma of enumeration" comes from Venerable Dharma...

1. Like others of his time, he estimated that the training required in Tendai is not accessible by most people. 2. He disagreed with the integration of Vajrayana methods with Tendai theory. 1)Hmmmm. He understood what the teaching implied and he gave the world an expedient means to liberation throu...

I don't agree, "If anything is inherent it would mean no change." There is the inherency of Buddha and the Three Truths, including emptiness, no? M This is the problem with walling yourself into a Nichiren sandbox - one tends to cut themselves off from the context that Nichiren lived with...

QQ. I have a hard time not seeing nihilism in your view. . Also reading the last post I can't help but think you view Samsara as some kind of mind only school thing. It's just something perceived by the unenlightened. Samsara from the view of sunyata is an enlightened view. That's all, a view into ...

Re: Is it really necessary to contemplate the gohonzon in daimoku practice?

For me the Gohonzon not only depicts but actually is. for instance : Indra and Brahma are depicted using characters. Due to the ODaimoku it gives "life" , if you will, to the character there by allowing it to become Indra. Also it depends on what form of contemplation. All are beneficial. ...

QQ all I have tried to say is that if one blows out their karma they no longer are forced to enter Samsara. It does not mean that samsara has an ending. You don't understand what "samsara" means. Samsara is the cycle of birth and death. When one awakens - attains Buddhahood, annuttara samyak sambodhi, samsara ends. Suffering ends. The cycle of birth and death ends. From the awakened view, there is no samsara. From the 16th Chapter of the ...

Whatever that is, it is not Buddha-dharma. You'd be hard pressed to find any support for your views in Nichiren's writings. -On Attaining Buddhahood in this Lifetime So, you were saying... No you said Nichiren's teachings do not deviate from this basic Buddhist aim to end samsara. Samsara always wa...
