Re: Enlightenment success rate

The Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, and, dependent origination. Taints and stains fall away naturally through the total approach to Dharma, this is both action according to the Eightfold Path and Right Concentration, which is contemplation through satipatthana, the Four Fou...

Re: Shakyamuni and bodhisattva vow

Just imagine, each Buddha influence "3 heaven great heaven worlds" (1 trillion galaxies), Where you got that from? as far as i know a sambhogakaya buddha can influence much more than that- You are correct. 1 trillion galaxies is just the minimum field of influence. An example is Amida Buddha field ...

Re: Enlightenment success rate

AND, especially in the Pali Sutta, the Buddha continuously refers to "taints" and "stains" that need to be removed. This statement is quite true. The fact is to become Buddha, one must remove all taints and obstructions. That is how Buddha was able to see the universe, karma, rebirth etc so clearly...

Re: Enlightenment success rate

"Attaining" means you have to get something. The reason that "nothing to be attained" is because it is always there all along. We don't actually attain enlightenment or become Buddha. Buddha is already in us or that we are buddha, all we have to do is clean the mirror to see ourselves. "This Heart ...

Re: How to believe in rebirth

I used to be a Christian but one thing always bugs me is the concept of one soul and only path to hell and heaven. I started to ask, what happen to all the souls before Jesus or millions of souls who never heard the word of God or the 90% of proclaimed Christian who doesn't follow the 10 commandment...

Re: Enlightenment success rate

This teaching of "nothing to be attained" is in many sutras, even in the Heart Sutra. "Attaining" means you have to get something. The reason that "nothing to be attained" is because it is always there all along. We don't actually attain enlightenment or become Buddha. Buddha is already in us or th...

Re: Shakyamuni and bodhisattva vow

Shakyamuni vows is to liberate sentient beings is the ages of defilement. He revealed in one of the sutra (sorry, I don't know English name) that this was His 8000th times showing that he reached full enlightenment for the benefit of sentient beings. For Buddha, even though in Nirvana, part of him s...

Re: Pure lands and six realms?

How to the pure lands of the different buddha families relate to the six realms? Are they apart from them in a relative sense? From my understanding, all Buddha Pureland contains six realms. The realms are separated example: human can't see the hell, ghost, heaven or bodhisattva (same as our Saha)....

Re: determine rebirth at death

In Tibetan Phowa practice, while they don't test the heat, the top (crown) of the head is very important: During Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche’s conducting the most auspicious tantra of Phowa Dharma of Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche pours his own body energy, i.e. his ...

Re: determine rebirth at death

Thanks for the reference and corrected my error. I knew it was the top of the head but don't know why I wrote temple. I don't see this method being use among other Buddhist branch except PL. I'm not sure about Tibet practices but they seem to care a lot about the dead

determine rebirth at death

I'm not sure if anyone has first hand experience with this. It is said to determine where I person rebirth by examining the body after 8hrs-12hrs from death. It is crucial Importance not to touch the body for at least 8hrs. There is a local heat signature that remains even after 12hrs after death wh...

Re: Shakyamuni in Pure Land

All Buddha are equal. Chanting a name of one buddha has the same merit as another. But the mind of sentient beings in the Saha world is so dispersed that we need to focus on only one Buddha which is Amida. Shakyamuni Buddha shows us the path and Amida Buddha opens his arm to receive us. Both Buddhas...

Re: Buddhahood in three incalculable eons an improbable venture.

The reason it takes such a long time and even longer is due to retrogression. Even if you cultivate a lot of merit this lifetime but cannot become an arhat, all those Merit will only help you obtain a heavenly or earthly body. The worst is that you don't remember your previous vows and with all the ...

Re: Greeting Everyone

Thanks for the greeting. Yes, during the 49 days we tried to cultivate merit and transfer to her. The only way to find out where was reborn to is to cultivate my faith and strengthen my vow so I can be reborn in PL. :anjali:

Greeting Everyone

Greeting to all, I'm new to Buddhism and started learning about over a year now, specifically in Pure Land and recitation of Amida Buddha's name. I was introduced to PL when my mother had cancer and we had a Nun and a group of layman came to chant the Buddha's name hoping she would gain enough faith...
