Re: Bodhisattva Vows and Bodhicitta Upkeep

To me, this it the core of all practices: Keep unfolding Bodhicitta. Formal meditation like Sadhana sessions are like squeezing out the Bodhicitta and the in-between formal meditation is trying to remember it. I'd say don't be too hard on yourself, this is real work. Maybe make it a goal to be bette...

Re: Chogyam Trungpa's The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma

My intention is not to start another "Trungpa Rinpoche" controversy discussion, but the direction of some posts incline me to post a broader comment. Trungpa Rinpoches behaviour certainly wasn't what you would except, it raised a lot of criticism, especially in the Tibetan community. He didn't hide ...

Re: I am struggling. Was consciousness the most important aggregate according to the Buddha?

Thanks, I did meet Mingyur Rinpoche in person, although it was during his book tour, so I just got to listen to a Dharma talk and get a book signed (which is already more than I was asking for). Couldn't converse with him directly, which is hard, since he is a very busy and popular teacher. To be c...

Re: I am struggling. Was consciousness the most important aggregate according to the Buddha?

I think it is hard for me to trust a teacher. Despite seeing the wonderful qualities of Mingyur Rinpoche or the outstanding knowledge and wisdom of people like Ajahn Amaro, I am afraid of following someone and getting hurt by following a wrong path. That insight actually is a good start, I think. I...

Re: Trouble with visualization and recitation at same time

A teacher close to my heart usually replies to such questions: "Can you, right now, imagine the pillow in your bed?" - turns out most people can do that. That *is* visualisation. If you can do that, you basically have what it takes. The rest is getting familiar with the visualisation and maybe also ...

He's also doing live webcasts every Saturday teaching about a particular text that is being used, called "A Shower of Blessings" by Mipham Rinpoche:

Tso Pema also is the seat of Lho Ontul Rinpoche, a highly regarded teacher from the Drikung Kagyu lineage. His son Ratna Rinpoche is also a teacher and speaks very good English. http://www.lhorigdzin.org/ontul.html https://www.facebook.com/ontul/ http://rywiki.tsadra.org/index.php/Lho_Ontul_Rinpoche...

Re: 5 precepts

A teacher very close to my heart said the 5 precepts are the absolute bare minimum to keep if you want to get somewhere in Dharma!

(p.s.: He also said its an ever evolving training process and not to be too harsh on oneself while in it)
(p.p.s.: Written by a wine-loving student :D )

Re: Jhanas in the Bodhisattva bhumi system

There is no direct relationship between Bhumis and Jhanas, as far as I know. If there is, I'd be interested in reading about it, too! "Jhana" usually refers to a stage of Samadhi, or "one-pointed mindfulness". I think of it more like a skill, a tool, like a magnifying glass, that we can use to enhan...

Who knows what happened to him? How well do you know this guy? If you're not his teacher, stop the judgements and projections?

Re: Chogyal Rinpoche

The bio on his website says he studied in Rumtek. But since there are none of his teachers mentioned, there's no way to verify his tulku and/or rinpoche status. Could of course mean he's "extra humble" or something, but then, why would such a person advertise to be a reincarnated rinpoche in the fir...
