Re: How do I go deeper into Zen practice?

Some good suggestions above. Do retreats. That's the main thing.

Re: Finding mewa

http://www.kalacakra.org/calendar/kcal.htm Grigoris, others too, how can I find the constellations for a given day? The kalachakra website you gave is very good, is the info in there somewhere? I'm including an image from there, maybe it's buried in there somehow. [img]file:///Users/jacobkarlins/De...

Re: Finding mewa

Key for consulting the Tibetan calendar- available on Amazon and through Shang shung. Kevin et al- one more question for now: The days of the week are very helpful and approachable. Do these refer to our Western days of the week, or would you calculate this from the lunar calendar, with day 1 being ...

Re: Finding mewa

Thanks, just got that myself. Thanks for the help, and I'm also glad I worked on it myself a little in the book, because now I understand how to use the Mewa table in the back. Next I'll be learning to calculate the mewa of the day, and comparing it to mine (2).

Finding mewa

Just got Namkhai Norbu's book on Astrology.

I'm trying to find my birth year mewa (birthday is Jan 12 1981). From the charts, it looks like my year was a Metal Monkey year, technically 1980, since 1981 started in February. Could someone help me out with the mewa for this year?

thanks

Re: I found this statue...

As Grigoris and Virgo have said, the influences there are many. To conflate multiple arms with the Mahayana is not correct. Not sure exactly where this comes from, but Thai religion is extremely rich and complex. Deities venerated include bodhisattvas from China and elsewhere like Kshitigarbha. I be...

Re: Lungta/Prayer Flags

It's an interesting point, faith, and we could spin off in any number of directions from here. I'd worry that it would become a sort of back and forth argument, and I'm not really interested in that. It can work sometimes, but here it seems not to, most times. Which is to say, I hold to my original ...

Re: Lungta/Prayer Flags

Ok, I agree that the time of putting them up is important. I've always tried for the morning of "PF days" based on my calendar. Mornings better? Same as later in the day? I disagree that making them is simple, although buying them is definitely an option. The designs seem traditional, prec...

Since we're on the topic, if anyone could help with this, it would be appreciated very much. I have wondered about this too.

Lungta flags

Ok to put em up inside, like in a meditation room? I've been doing this for a while, but I've heard some people say that it's more of an outdoor thing.

thanks

There was probably a context.

In any case, it's a word. We have words in Buddhism, just like Christians and Jews have words.

seems out of touch- whatever the evidence might be to make such an argument, it assumes that thousands of realized teachers utilizing this teaching have been mistaken

Re: How to (try to) resolve family conflict?

Family karma is heavy. Just a guess, but it sounds like there is both a lot of anger, and a level of addiction to the relationship (desire), in terms of your wife and her sister.

No suggestions. Glad you're practicing. Good luck.
