Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

Of course, no one actually thinks that the photons are sentient beings involved in an elaborate conspiracy to trick us, but that really appears to be what is happening. If Buddhism states that the Universe itself is sentient and that so called "sentient beings" are not sentient, i.e they ...

Re: Rudolf Steiner, Waldorf Schools, &c

My elder Sister became a Montessori teacher after years of private study in Montessori education. She also mentioned Rudolf Steiner, to me, so I think She read His books. A saying goes: "Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach." Basically my Sister didn't become a teacher because of th...

Is living off-grid realistic in today's technological age?

It seems that the network of modern technology, electricity, internet, etc has joined up the world and this is really great for human communication. Whilst shunning these benefits seems virtuous for the environment, do you think this independence would be a form of exclusion from your progress towar...

Draw a circle; within the circle draw a square; within the square draw a triangle. Draw a horizontal line across the triangle half way up and you have a human face. Then place a dot for each of the eyes. This geometry of the human face shows the female above the male. Tom. face.png I have a human f...

Re: Sparks from rocks at funeral

Maybe one rock was quartz and the other contained iron. That would produce a spark. In the UK there are many "Flint" (quartz) rocks to be found in fields and on some areas of coastline the entire shore is "Flint"... Don't know about iron ore, though.

Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

So does that then mean that information travels backwards in time? In the process of information quantification is it not the case that the matter we try to quantify is already quantified upon its existence because it exists in a state of quantum regularity and, therefore, while we may believe we a...

Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

You seem to be under the impression that only science can verify things. On the contrary. It's you who thinks things can be verified. Anyone, even a child, can read English well enough so of course I understand your simplictic reasoning. You argue that machines verify things, and consoicness verife...

Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

You seem to be under the impression that only science can verify things. This is so wrong. So called "scientific evidence" actually means something detectable by scientific machines. But machines cannot detect everything. That is why there is actually no "scientific evidence" th...

Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

You are missing the point. It is not the interplay per se that is a revolutionary way of thinking. It is the fact that the "elements" in the interplay do not inherently exist. In fact, it is more like we only have the interplay, with no elements at all. To reiterate, most can easily under...

Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

In relation to these statements, I ask; If sentient beings are composed of the very same matter which is being observed, and do not possess any "self", then how come the wave-function has been scientifically verified to be applicable to a sentient beings and, for example, not found to be ...

Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

"According to Madhyamika philosophy, objects only exist in dependence upon causes and conditions, and in dependence upon the mind that apprehends it." The above is a quote from page 1. I personally think the following, similar, statement is a better one: "According to Modern Science,...

I disagree. For example, men have nipples but - even if they only help the body regulate temperature - they're not irrelevant.

Re: How Madhyamika Philosophy Solves the Mystery of Quantum Physics

The OP, in his paper, seems to address the collapse of the wave function. One of the mysteries that modern science is perplexed with is that of quantum entanglement. Emptiness has already been discussed within this thread. Personally, what I fail to see is how an intellectual understanding about the...

Lotus sutra only mentions the word "eternal" twice: http://www.bdk.or.jp/document/dgtl-dl/dBET_T0262_LotusSutra_2007.pdf “It is just like the grasses, trees, shrubs, and herbs that do not know their own natures, whether they are superior, mediocre, or inferior. Yet the Tathā-gata knows the...

Yesterday I laughed and smiled, Never questioning why or how, Not caring for the permanence, Of selfish ignorant grasping. Yesterday I didn't question, The impermanence of my smile, Caught in a dream, freely, Not, in bondage, questioning. Today I ask, searching for answers, Aware of these words, Inf...
