Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Does anyone who watched the broadcasts with Elio know if the explanations for all these rushen are included in Stairway to Liberation? He mentioned it several times, but I didn't understand if all the explanations are in there or just some comments on them. Also, is a separate lung required for the...

Re: Prostrations with tendinitis. Any tips?

Thank you all. I really appreciate the suggestions. My plan is to do them for at least a few more days to finish the equivalent of the retreat I started but had to stop due to family issues; but I am definitely being careful and aware and I started doing wrist warm ups first. I think I identified a ...

Prostrations with tendinitis. Any tips?

So, I like prostrations. The combination of a physical workout and a spiritual practice is  But, I also have tendinitis. I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem and had any helpful tips, like some sort of brace or placing the hands a particular way or something like that. Right no...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

I accumulated them one at a time. Although I have received the Yuthok Nyingthig from Dr. Nida, I have also received it from Tulku Yeshi Gyamtso and I practice from the original Tibetan texts, not Dr. Nida's abbreviated ones. Not that there's anything wrong with Dr. Nida's versions of the Yuthok sad...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

climb-up, So we're talking about the Yuthok Nyingthig ngondro? I've done that ngondro four times. First time I did it by the numbers. Other three times I did it by 7-day retreats. In all cases I offered a physical mandala. It never occurred to me to do it any other way. When you did your first Yuth...

...and it doesn’t seem right to try learn from YouTube and add it in... I wasn't insinuating that you should. I just added the video as an example of what I meant by "physical mandala offering". I try not to assume that people know the meaning of the jargon associated with practices. Oh no, I didn’...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

Okay, I think there was a misunderstanding. Grigoris did you mean that you did the five ngöndro accumulations five times or that you did the five ngöndro practices 100 000 times? :) I meant I did the 5 practices 100,000 times each. Sorry if that was not clear. I wish I did the whole ngondro 5 times...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

:o When you did your 5 classic/100,000 ngondros, where you in full retreat or did you do them as part of your regular life? I have never done more than a 10 day retreat a year. All my accumulations for Ngondro and Yidam practices have been done as part of my (hectic) regular life. Wow! Very inspiri...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

The very first ngondro I did was a very, very condensed one revealed by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche just for busy Westerners/moderns. We did not use physical mandalas nor did we attempt to hold the mandala offering mudra when counting. We just recited the prayer (two lines) and counted with our mala as us...

Re: White Robes, Matted Hair...

It’s so great, and Ben is so awesome.
When it came out I so excited, but also quickly realized that reading a book that long on my phone was not going to happen, so I made a print copy from lulu.com and now I have a lovey edition on my bookshelf. :)

Ngondro will get under your skin at some point.
Not sure there is such a thing as a popular and easy way.

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

I'll give you my experience of ngondro. And don't take this as a one size fits all, but I received the lung from guru, then any questions I had, I asked the ordained sangha for clarifications. Then last part for guru yoga was something else. Not qualified to say if that's true for other sanghas. Re...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

What I did is to measure the average number of offerings I would make per minute and then just practice for whatever amount of time I needed to complete (let's say) one hundred repetitions. Out of interest: If you are doing accumulation of mandala, why are you not offering physical mandala? https:/...

Re: Counting mandala mudra offerings

There are several options if you can't use a mala. You can find tally counter apps for your phone, alternatively you can even use something as simple as stones or grains of rice, for example. Is there a trick to to doing this without interrupting the flow of practice: or do just do one, stop, count...

Re: Medicine Buddha sadhanas with mandala?

Hello, Does anyone if there are any self generation medicine buddha sadhanas where the medicine Buddha’s mandala, as described in the Gyu-Zhi, is explicitly constructed in the same way that we might with say Vajrakilaya or Simhamukha? It seems like there would be, but none that I have received do a...

Counting mandala mudra offerings

Hello everyone, I’m sure this has been asked before, but I wasn’t able to search (to many hits?), but is there a simple way of keeping count while performing mandala offering mudras? It doesn’t seem like I can make the mudra correctly and actually count on the mala, it’s to late to order an ...
