I saw the application too and right first question was to confirm that one has not received transmission from Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche. The NDA is also bit ... strange.
As a friend of my families would constantly say, excitedly and with a gleam in his eye:
“The plot thickens!”

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Certainly a surprise, especially based on what has been said here. I wonder if this is a one-off, or the start of a whole new phase for the DC. If what is? What are you guys talkin' bout? There seems to be an event at Merigar in April I think with Yeshi giving transmission. There were some screensh...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

We'll round off the sub-conversation on music theory and take chat via PM further if you want, but for the sake of completeness: Fair enough. Thank for the answer, really interesting. As a beginner who only plays for fun I have given up on music school and am currently trying to learn enough theory...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

what are your thoughts on counterpoint and polyrhythm? What are your thoughts about atonal bluegrass? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gzodB0Sp6ZI I LOVE that! Recently my bluegrass listening (inspired by the sometimes lovely youtube algorithm) has been a wonderful song about renunciation and finally ...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

Did this thread really go from 'renunciation is not necessary' to 'Marcuse is necessary'? I heard a story about CTR in Bhutan requesting one of his Australian students to teach him Fromm....so maybe at least one Vajrayana road goes in this direction..... No, not all, we're talking music school here...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

So in music school they teach harmony, composition, counterpoint, etc. That way the performer understands what the composer was doing. “Okay, so here he’s doing a key change to the parallel minor.” :rolling: I too, when originally enrolling at a music faculty at a major Canadian university, was und...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

Your understanding is incomplete. Ngondro usually implies Tantric preliminaries. Many Dzogchen teachers including ChNN mean something different by Ngondro and do not require Tantric preliminaries. 1) My understanding is CERTAINLY incomplete! 2) Nothing you said above contradicts my understanding. I...

There is no Ngondro in Dzogchen.

I did the full Karma Kagyu Ngondro. Pointing Out made that redundant in a second.
Sure there is. The outer, inner and secret rushen are the dzogchen ngondro in all traditions.
..or at least that is my understanding and what I have heard.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Or perhaps in the not too distant future a Lama will receive a unifying Longsal terma from ChNN through lucid dreaming, so no successor is needed. I was just thinking of that last night too. The teachings exist still not only with those humans who received them, but with the Dakinis. They won’t be ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

...the critical issue here is who holds those complete transmissions and empowerments of the Longsal terma and the other termas that ChNNr held - he held various ones from people like Changchub Dorje, Ayu Khandro etc. Only people who have received all the reading transmissions can actually pass on ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Im not aware of any authorizide lamas in DC nor anyone besides Rinpoches children. Could you elaborate on this point a bit, please? sounds interresting. I may not have been as clear as I meant to be. I mean people who are authorized as lamas who are also DC members; not that they were authorized as...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

As something of an outsider to the DC (I mean, I’m a member and have been to my local ling; but primarily due to circumstance my occasional posts here are my closest to DC organizational participation); The one year of silence seemed kind of like a way of giving enough time to figure out the next st...

Just bought this: https://shop.shangshungfoundation.com/en/books/844-freedom-from-attachment-9788878341630.html Must say, I was thrilled when I heard about this coming out, as I have connection to Sakya lineage and teachers I have always loved this text, excited to read Rinpoche's take on it. Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

By any chance does anyone have a recording of any teaching by Rinpoche on Avalokisteshvara Khorva Dongtruk and would be so kind to share it through private message? I think the last retreat about it was the one in Barcelona in 2012: http://dzogchen.gr/en/webcasts/webcast-in-barcelona/  I'm i...

Men and Rakta

Sorry, this is very basic I think, but I would like to get some understanding of what men and rakta is/are and how they are prepared and offered. I found "rakta substance" available online, a powder, but idk if this is just put into a kapala as is, made into some kind of liquid, or something else an...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I was able to get some guidance on the practice, along with the advice that it isn’t at all necessary and that the standard unelaborated practice contains everything.

I really appreciate all the contributions and suggestions. :namaste:

I can't recall that ChNNR ever gave instructions on how to set up an altar for deity practice. But my memory is not very reliable. Anyway, normally we do altar set ups for deity practice only when doing retreat.
