Re: Which Of The 17 Dzogchen Tantras Have Been Published?

Dear Dharma friend In Open Source Buddhism Library project we have opportunity to translate large Dzogchen and Tantra texts. ... Sarva Mangalam! Open Source Buddhism Library Stroganov Alexander I see a list on this site of Lamas who were in favor of an open source Buddhist library. Are/where they a...

Re: Requesting Teachings

ChNN did teach non-Longsal Longde as well right? Or is that incorrect? I was thinking that if I had a longde empowerment I could learn from the shang shung material that is not Longsal. I have a Longde book that I have only read the introduction of (I didn't realize it was a separate lung to practi...

Re: Requesting Teachings

Practice what you got instead, running after ChNNR teachings seem difficult and maybe impossible if you can't travel. Also no one is transmitting the Longsal teachings at this time. /magnus That's the plan, I have at least another year to work through the SMS Base for the first time and, honestly, ...

Re: Requesting Teachings

i should have probably been more precise and said: "on your whim from any teacher". quite a lot of western buddhists develop some kind of a collector approach on regards of teachings/empowerments, thinking they know better if they should practice this or that. FWIW I am not interested in requesting...

Requesting Teachings

Sorry for the obvious question but, What is the process for requesting specific teachings from a Lama. My only personal experience is with ChNN in the DC (wherein you didn't really request teachings) and with Dr. Nida, where I found out he was giving an empowerment that I was just able to make it to...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

If they receive the full transmission from Yeshi, then they’ll be be part of the same lineage; seems at least functionally the same to me.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Thank you, that clears it up.
Not a change in the org per se, but a potential entry point for some. Given the motivation, and the requirement that it be in person and a limited number, the reason that this is only for those without transmission is very clear and reasonable.
That's good. :)

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I have to say, it is getting exhausting seeing people basically say to shut up any time anyone brings up something questioning the DC's direction. The fact is that Rinpoche is no longer running the DC. There appear to be a few different camps, I imagine each one claims they are carrying Rinpoche's ...

I saw the application too and right first question was to confirm that one has not received transmission from Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche. The NDA is also bit ... strange.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Certainly a surprise, especially based on what has been said here. I wonder if this is a one-off, or the start of a whole new phase for the DC. If what is? What are you guys talkin' bout? There seems to be an event at Merigar in April I think with Yeshi giving transmission. There were some screensh...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

We'll round off the sub-conversation on music theory and take chat via PM further if you want, but for the sake of completeness: Fair enough. Thank for the answer, really interesting. As a beginner who only plays for fun I have given up on music school and am currently trying to learn enough theory...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

what are your thoughts on counterpoint and polyrhythm? What are your thoughts about atonal bluegrass? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gzodB0Sp6ZI I LOVE that! Recently my bluegrass listening (inspired by the sometimes lovely youtube algorithm) has been a wonderful song about renunciation and finally ...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

Did this thread really go from 'renunciation is not necessary' to 'Marcuse is necessary'? I heard a story about CTR in Bhutan requesting one of his Australian students to teach him Fromm....so maybe at least one Vajrayana road goes in this direction..... No, not all, we're talking music school here...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

So in music school they teach harmony, composition, counterpoint, etc. That way the performer understands what the composer was doing. “Okay, so here he’s doing a key change to the parallel minor.” :rolling: I too, when originally enrolling at a music faculty at a major Canadian university, was und...

Re: There is no Vajrayana without renuciation

Your understanding is incomplete. Ngondro usually implies Tantric preliminaries. Many Dzogchen teachers including ChNN mean something different by Ngondro and do not require Tantric preliminaries. 1) My understanding is CERTAINLY incomplete! 2) Nothing you said above contradicts my understanding. I...
