Re: Finding Your Guru

If you're in Toronto, I don't think you could do better than Khenpo Sonam at the Riwoche Temple. There's no question about His bona fides. I have visited Riwoche for the pujas but got a vibe like I was an outsider... which I suppose is true. In general it was a solemn atmosphere, compared with this...

When investigating a teacher it is important to know who his teachers are and who authorized him to teach. In addition, it is important for said teacher to be connected to an authentic lineage.

Re: Mixing Worldly and Dharma Paths

I am curious about this concept of mixing dharma with non-Buddhist paths. It is certainly an observable phenomenon to see people mixing, even intentionally hybridizing, spiritual paths. Usually the intention is that it's all the same -- or perhaps the imperative that it should be made the same . At...

Re: Dharmakaya / Primordial Buddha

I brought this up on the Shingon section, and it is their opinion that Vairocana is the Primordial Buddha, although a teacher at my temple refuted this saying Vairocana is a sambogha-kaya rather than dharma-kaya. Is this true within tibetan tradition? Can someone explain to me the difference betwee...

Re: Opening oneself to others

Any thoughts on practices to help make oneself more open and warm hearted to others, generally or specifically. I'd like to be more open generally, but I notice myself closing off in relation to my parents in particular, shutting down, being unreasonably irritated etc. The other place I've noticed ...

Re: Looking for help with severe provocations

A practitioner close to me is having severe provocations and needs help as soon as possible. I know there is the rite for calling back the Lha and some other rites that could be done by people that have the capacity. Does anyone know someone that could help? If you do and are willing to help, pleas...

Re: Beginner Practice Books?

Can anyone suggest a book, article or youtube video explaining basic aspects of ritual practice? eg. Setting up an altar, how to properly use a mala for mantra, how to make prayers and why, basic ways to develop merit... This sort of thing. This is for a friend beginning in Tibetan Buddhism but wit...

Re: Unclear parts of Longsal Divination of Dorje Yudronma

Hello brothers and sisters! Some days ago I received a new book from Shang Shung: "Longsal Divination of Dorje Yudronma", and now I try to understand the method. In our local DC nobody knows how to do this divination. So, can somebody help me with unclear parts of this divination, please? (...

Re: HHDL: sixty years in exile

I'm definitely not in the political stuff, taking party and making bands, politics, truly are not an efficacious way for applying boddhicitta. Well if you want to apply bodhicitta efficaceously, how about starting by not sneering at other's efforts to practice it? You know the consequences of disco...

Re: Question about Sang offering

Your op mentions the Sang done in the DC.You could ask one the SMS teachers. i did, a few days ago. i'm waiting :) You ever hear back? Yes, S. Landsberg came to my country a few days ago and i asked him. He said to use only aromatics, like juniper, sandalwood, etc. in the sang of Adzom Drukpa.

Re: HHDL: sixty years in exile

Yeah i really dont see the point of making this kind of comment the point is that we have more empathy for those we like and we dare to turn a blind eye to the rest. So unless you talk about the suffering of every sentient being you dont talk about any suffering at all? Really, i dont see the point...

Re: Samaddhi for softening people's mind

There absolutely is "Samadhi" in Bodhisattvayana. It means any/all kind of meditative practice. Absorption is a bit of a controversial topic in Buddhism. In the colloquial, it means the "senses" are turned inward - and I'm sure there are degrees and stages of this. Somewhat unfortunately the system...

Sixty years of religious repression, cultural destruction, unjust imprisonment, exploitation and murder. Sixty years worse than anything the Soviets ever did, excep...
