Re: Encyclopedia of deities

Thanks for those book listed Dolphin. Did not know of them.
I do know of individual books on the female Goddesses/Buddha Kwan Yin and Tara. They both have multiple books out covering alot on each. But these are mostly well known.

Re: What practices would Madhyamakin and Yogacarins actually have done?

Any particular sutra out of these you recommend? Unless you read Chinese, just go through everything available in English. Also, there are mainly two additions to what was already taught in the sravaka texts: the contemplation (through visualisation and recitation) of buddhas and bodhisattvas, and ...

Re: Mala Etiquette

Everyone who carefully read the above text can see clearly that a mala in Vajrayana is not simply a tool, as it's not just also a "magic" thing, sorcery or whatever you want! This kind of attitude from practitioners is actually one out of many reasons of why Vajrayana is a "secretive" thing, or at ...

Re: Mala Etiquette

In the old days Malas were made with what was at hand. They are counting device only so don't get too worried about how and why. The book on Malas is made for those in the West that must always make things way more complicated than they need to be. Buy or make one that you like, use how it feels com...

Re: Authentic?

This site raise many red flags. Only page I read was about Master Tony Chew. Declaring one self a Buddha is a major red flag. Listing no teacher of the teacher another. Trying to convince reader your are a Buddha not good and worse that your a good teacher by saying what is not. Lots implied no proo...

Re: Creating an aversion to the Dharma in someone

One once told me the Mantra should only be spoken with intention in private. Listening in public place to me defeats the purpose. But it might be grating on someone to hear over and over every day who is not into religious sounds. You might ask your employee what they like and interchange it with th...

Suggestions needed for ego control Sutra

I recognize I have an issue with ego escalation. My zodiacs are Dragon and Leo, which explains it to those that follow astrology.
I am trying to get it better under control and am thinking a Sutra or two addressing this would be my best study now.
Most humble thanks. :namaste:

Re: Getting a beginner a great start?

My through beginning book was The Heart of the Buddha's Teachings by Thich Nhat Hanh. Now point to be made, I did have some internet reading on Buddhism over a few years. In many forums I looked and this book always came out with high regards. My opinion is it gives a very clear understanding of the...

Wrathful Intent

I have been brushing up on mala making. Something I would like to know. Why and what would be and used for wrathful intent in Buddhism? We know bone is used as a mala for wrathful intent. But is this not an oxymoron to Buddhism intention? When would wrathful intent be used in Buddhism? Really curiou...
