Re: Short Tara Praise Question

I believe this is the abbreviated version of the 21 Tara praises, which comes from Atisha. Not sure if it actually has a specific name. What is the name of this praise? Is there any recording available? Thank you. OM chom dän dä ma lha mo dröl ma la chhag tshäl lo Chhag tshäl dröl ma TARE päl mo TUT...

Re: Plead for prayers for my granddad

If his frequent urination is UTI related, you might want to try white radish, which is good for urinary disorders, especially with treating any sort of infection caused by an overactive bladder. Radish soup is a popular home remedy where I'm from. Some people also consume the leaves. Alternatively, ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I hope this is ok to post here. Apologies if this isn't the best place for it. Can I please ask for some guidance with secondary practices within the DC, specifically for the benefit of those with serious illnesses? My mother-in-law just got diagnosed with colon cancer. While the outlook isn't bleak...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I was just at Dzamling gar. For any one who doesnt know already, Rinpoche got out of hospital a few days ago. I saw him when he returned, he looked weak. He is resting at home. I read that to improve Rinpoches health he has requested for his students do guru yoga, remain present and work with circu...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

If someone would like to PM you about this, someone can. Regardless, it’s important to remember he seems to struggle to respond to everyone. Please do not write to Rinpoche right now. Wait till we know he is as fit as a fiddle again. Sorry, I feel indirectly responsible for raising this iss...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Reading The Practice in Daily Life, and enjoying him complaining about people who send him 5 page emails. Apologies for hijacking your question, meepits - I'm just a little curious how one goes about emailing Rinpoche. Is there a publicly available address one can use to contact Rinpoche personally?

Re: Response to Bernie

Rinpoche is talking about definite teachings and provisional teachings. It was "Cinderella teachings" not "Cinderella sutras". /magnus It's really just an alternative way of saying what would more classically be called " Provisional, and definitive " teachings. Thank you all for the clarification. ...

Re: Response to Bernie

Started watching the Berlin video; I'm having trouble processing DJKR's take on "what the Buddha actually taught" and "Cinderella sutras". I'm hopeful that this is elaborated later on in the talk but it does seem like a very strange statement to make with such certainty. Or maybe I'm just too dull t...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Yes you definitely can get it, it sheds some more light on practices that you were given the lung for on the last day. It doesn't contain everything, but for someone who is starting it's very complete, contains the principal practices. For each there is a bit of history, purpose of practice, maybe ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Noob question - for the lungs that Rinpoche gave earlier, are we required to receive empowerment to practice (say Green Tara or Marici) anuyoga style? Is it ok to just do the root mantra? Dzogchen transmission eliminates any need to have further empowerments for the lungs you have received. Thank y...

Re: Introduction (and in need of some advice)

As others have noted, you could do both. You can both go for the academic degree(s) and do the practice too. The academic part will give you a better understanding of the doctrines, concepts, history, etc which can definitely be an aid to practice. As far as career opportunities, I think those will...

I don’t mean to dissuade you from any particular choice, just offering a perspective on what additional factors you may want to consider. In the meantime, and beyond, study! Practice! Not at all! I really appreciate your insight and I'd definitely need to consider all options before making a decisi...

Re: Introduction (and in need of some advice)

Study should inform practice, it should be relevant to the here-and-now. Otherwise it becomes just another thing to cling to, a source of more proliferation, the sort of stuff that binds us. Hey Dan74! Thanks for your advice. I guess this is what I'm struggling with - finding a balance between theo...
