Re: Benefits of Prayer Wheels by Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche

Mine just arrived - a small Ebay purchase. I plan to replace the prayers inside, but can there be several, printed in the right direction, or is just one mantra permissible? My instinct tells me just one as you can only recite one at once. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/sIMAAOSwfsdcFoRu/s-l1600.jpg...

Yes, in Tibetan.
Do any translations of this section exist yet?
There is a translation of the 1000 names: http://www.chinabuddhismencyclopedia.co ... 00_Buddhas
Guess that works as well. Thanks!

The One Hundred and Eight Names of the Tathāgatas?

Does anyone know where this practice is or have it? It's mentioned in the following link, but I cannot find it except a maybe a mention in the 84000 website in the Kangyur section (or are the 108 names of Shakyamuni different from thus?). https://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/mipham/treasury-...

Re: Draught animals in the White Lotus Sutra

In Chapter three of the Lotus Sutra there is the parable of the burning house. These animals are goat , deer , and white bullock . Goat is a...

Re: Marxism and Buddhism

Then you should read Fromm. he was a Freudian and a Marxist. His book "The Mass Psychology of Fascism" is relevant as ever. Okay, so I researched the writer of this book, Wilhelm Reich, but I must say, this entire orgone idea is rather bizarre, more so than libidos and so forth. Still, I'll give it...

Re: Marxism and Buddhism

But if you read a bit of Marx you will realize he was antiauthoritarian and wanted workers to have democratic control of the means of production. It makes you a dirty commie loving bastard stealing people's freedom. I wouldn't recommend it. I'd rather read Freud honestly than Marx (I've read "Civil...

Re: Nasreddīn Hodja

Pardon, but why must baklava be so greasy? I just tried it for the first time and I must say, it wasn't how I anticipated it to be. It is the melted butter which is spread between each layer of filo pastry, so that they do not stick together into a doughy clump. What type of nut was in the baklava ...

Re: Nasreddīn Hodja

A foreign scholar and his entourage were passing through Aksehir. The scholar asked to speak with the town's most knowledgeable person. Of course the townsfolk immediately called Nasreddin Hodja. The foreign savant didn't speak Turkish and our Hodja didn't speak any foreign languages, so the two wi...

Re: "I didn't ask to be born."

I hear this from people time to time. They're usually depressed, or prone to depression. Generally, they seem to think life is an imposition. It plays out in all kinds of sad and destructive ways. What's going on in the thoughts behind that statement? How does one get out of that view? Reminds me o...
