Re: Heavens/Hells/Purelands

Are these said to be literal places somewhere out there in the universe? Yes, but not in this material world that we see as humans who live on Earth. So they exist, but you cannot travel there with a space-ship while in human form. This world is an illusion in any case, humans perceive it as they d...

Re: Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

Around a year ago Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche gave the lung etc. for Kunzang Monlam in Spain and it was streamed on facebook. I think it was on the facebook page of a Spanish dharma center but I can't find it. Does anyone have the link? Edit: found it after all: https://www.facebook.com/casadeldharmacdmx...

Re: DJKR letter to Aung San Suu Kyi

You don't like the letter? Why, pray tell? He goes on and on describing how 'the west' is terrible and 'the east' is wonderful, in a ridiculous way. I think his critique is a deserved one. He points at the cultural and economical pressure that put on asian countries which causes them to lose their ...

Re: Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

On day 2 session2 in the morning, CNR gave a lung but I can't make out the name of the text in the video. He was reading from a red softcover book. Anyone know? It is the main text. The mp3 download for day 7 part 1 is the only one not working. Has anyone downloaded it? Tried, not working. Also num...

Re: Working in the entertainment industry

Did the Buddha really say that you'd go to hell for merely being an actor? If so, why are many famous actors (Richard Gere, Jet Li, Tony Jaa, etc.) devout Buddhists? IMO, I do not see how providing joy to others while not inspiring them to do bad deeds (through violence or sexual exploitation, etc....

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

I can't remember for sure now (this was years back) but I don't think they were Nyingma. I've also seen some empowerments where there weren't any questions but it was still specified that one had to have taken refuge before receiving it. I think there was a discussion on the forums in the past abou...

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

I'm not totally sure everyone agrees with that. I personally do, but at the first teaching I ever attended I had a talk with one of the students of the center where the teaching was and she was adamant you need to go through the formal ritual to have taken refuge. She was a Gelug student. I...

I think on the first day Rinpoche said he will give the lung for Calling The Lama From Afar, has he already given it and I missed it? I checked the part I know 100% sure that I missed and it doesn't seem like he did during that time.
He didn't give it yet as far as i know.

Re: Pure Land - Some Doubts and Weak Faith

Sometimes my faith is weak and I have doubts of Pure Land teachings...are they real? Buddha did not teach such things. Others did. Its easy to imagine somewhere (some centurys ago), an abbot or a monk, seeing people lacking in faith, decide to create the Pure Land teachings. And thats it, we have t...

I think it is useful to read it several times and read a few different commentaries. This one is probably considered to be the best and mot exhaustive, out of the ones that have been translated at least: https://www.shambhala.com/the-nectar-of ... -1087.html

Re: A request to explain Vajrayana to a common Mahayanika

Karma Chagme was a Dzogchen practitioner. Yes, but that is why the question is being asked. If Buddhahood can be attained within one lifetime, or even a decade, in Dzogchen, then why would someone like Karma Chagme essentially delay their awakening by aspiring to be reborn in Sukhavati, describing ...

Re: A request to explain Vajrayana to a common Mahayanika

Pure land teachings are not a quick path. Is there some explanation why certain Dzogchen/Mahamudra masters like Karma Chagme aspire for Sukhavati (he says the Sukhavati aspiration is his root practice), while describing the interval to buddhahood there as infinite? We were talking about it in this ...
