Re: ahimsa and pest control

A true story. When CTR was abbot of Samye Ling he inherited a large colony of rats that came with the building. Most of the time the humans and rats coexisted, although they (the rats) often stole foodstuffs used in pujas. But around that time it became clear that the local authorities were taking ...

Re: ahimsa and pest control

But first off, noble truth #1, we are all going to die and suffer a great deal of sickness which is resl hell, no mater what. So within the reality of the three types of suffering, appreciating the right of all sentient beings to happiness can be a pathway to liberation, no question. But its always...

Does anyone have a link to a good image of the syllables of the Three Vajras? All the images I find online are either too dim, or without a thigle etc.

Re: ahimsa and pest control

Understood. But what do you think about the emptiness aspect of what you are talking about? In other words, emptiness, or the realization of dependant origination is seen as the basis of liberation from samsara. How do yiu reconcile the emptiness realization of killing insects deliberately at home,...

Re: Is the motivator a demotivator?

Some Buddhist texts state that there are special days when the merit of a particular practice increases by 100,000 / 1,000,000 times. The question arises: what is the motivation to strain on other days? Suppose that such a day falls only once a year. Then, even if you have practiced diligently all ...

Re: ahimsa and pest control

Sincere observation: we live off others' corpses. There are some exceptions but generally: * we feed off living things which we kill to eat * to live is ro kill (weeding garden, walk down street/path and step on all kinds of insects) * boil water, you kill all kinds of water born organisms * get a ...

Re: Difficulties to meet with one's Teacher

There are many methods of purification, some of which you must already have. I was said it is for 3 years exceeders. When I recite confession prayer I don't remember all breakages and transgressions. Since they purify karma from infinite lifetimes i don't think it makes much difference if you remem...

Re: Thoughts on Dzogchen without buddhism?

I think the confusion is that some think they are called preliminaries because they are preliminary to DI. But many if not most teachers give DI and the 'preliminaries' are practiced after that. They are preliminaries to a main practice such as the two stages or certain more advanced Dzogchen practi...

Hi Thanks for reply. Could you give me any leads (books ,websites, maybe just name of practice) on " other ways to practice that do not include wrathful deities etc., through which you can start overcoming negative emotions". Thanks Tony I think the reason no one else is answering here may in part ...

One of the texts Magnus posted above mentions two different kinds of Mahamudra. http://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/jamgon-kongtrul/mahamudra-swift-lord-of-realization The Dharma is vast and it has many forms, But the teachings that bring Buddhahood in a single lifetime Are the two ultimate...

Re: Western Monastic - reasons why she left

Right now, Tibetan monastics have employment status. They are granted income, bank account, car, mobile phone, pension. But is monatsicism an aid anyways? - I am not too sure. I met so many monks already struggling with chastity and their view on females. What is that suppression for? And is it sti...

So Dzogchen is name of a path as well as name of the fruit? The path that can be followed and practiced by non-aryans are practices like those in Rushens... Yes, it seems so. In any case, ChNNR always says that Dzogchen is a separate path. Can be, but niot necessarily, and the 17 tantras state one ...

Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra: differences and similarities

My understanding about Dzogchen is like what Namkhai Norbu said. It is the last part of the path to Buddhahood. Rightly so, any teachings that exist at that part of the path will be very pithy and contain very few words or no words. My doubt is that how many practitioners that received Dzogchen tea...
