Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

I haven't read The Atlantic for a long while but I used to think it was reliable and thoughtful, so I don't know what to think about this article or this quote, since I find it doubtful, at least comparing it to what I thought I knew about ISIS: The idea that the Islamic State simply scans the news...

Hi, I just wanted to chime in too and express my gratitude to Malcolm and all the people at Wisdom for everything y'all did to make this very special offering. The lung was an especially moving experience for me. I got my book in the mail this past week. I don't know who is responsible, but I'd love...

Re: The Tantric Age: A comparison of Shaiva and Buddhist Tantra

So, to sum up, yup. Yup. Ditto. Western academia is no friend to Buddhadharma. At the last Tsadra translation conference, Sangye Khandro very firmly put David Germano in his place. It was truly a sight to behold. Is there a video? Or audio or a transcription? I'd love to see that. If not could you ...

Re: Very sad news: Letter to Sogyal Rinpoche / Abuse allegations

In the USA "thirteen states and the District of Columbia have penal statutes that, in at least some circumstances, support the criminal prosecution of clergypersons engaged in sexual misconduct with congregants or parishioners" (http://www.adultsabusedbyclergy.org/statelaws.html) Is anyone familiar ...

Re: Is Amida Buddha a real buddha?

How is the Taisho canon or the writings of Tan-Luan, Tao-Cho, Shan-Tao, Honen, Shinran a short bibliography of books in English? Tan-Luan's Commentary on Vasubandhu's Sukhāvatīvyūhopadeśa Tao-cho's Collection of Passages on the Land of Peace and Bliss (An-lo chi) Shan-tao's Commentary on the Medita...

Re: Is Amida Buddha a real buddha?

And where did the people who wrote the official doctrinal standpoints of East Asian Pure Land get the idea? Likely from Bodhiruci and other missionary translators from the Indian cultural area. Is there a short bibliography of books in English language where one can find the official doctrinal stan...

Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra. Citation please? Not sure what you mean. You want page numbers? Quick start - see Nirvanasutra.net But take note that translation is not the best and the guy who runs the page... Well take with a pinch of salt. Yeah actual quotes would be nice. I read the Yamamoto tr...

Re: Is Amida Buddha a real buddha?

Where does the idea that he is a "sambhogakaya buddha" come from? It is the official doctrinal standpoint of East Asian Pure Land, basically since the beginning. And where did the people who wrote the official doctrinal standpoints of East Asian Pure Land get the idea? Is there a short bibliography...

Re: "Terror" attack in Berlin

Your attitude makes the problem worse, not better. You know, no one mentions the white guy that killed three muslims in Zurich the same day. Yep, non-Islamic mass violence gets virtually no press, even when it's significant. The three that were shot are all alive - two in serious condition. The sho...

Re: How do you feel about Buddhists getting involved in politics?

I'm asking about Buddhist communities campaigning to get representatives they actually trust into offices and change laws. What are your thoughts as Buddhists? It depends on what you mean by "community" but in the US it is against the law for churches and charities to be involved in political campa...

I'm looking for discussions on nihilism, especially what mahasiddhas said about it, but it can be any quote from any master, or even from anyone here. Just anything that can be used as a counter for nihilistic views. Thank you :anjali: Thinley Norbu (1931-2011) developed in his writings an extensiv...

Certainly there are astrological deities. Kyabjuk (Vishnu) Apparently that Kyabjuk is actually Rahu(la), see: http://vajracakra.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2892&start=10#p34851 Yeah you need to look no further than the Tashi Tsigpa praise to the 8 noble auspicious ones which is recited before pretty m...
