Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

what was the book? The book I have as a source from 2012 is Teachings on the Practice of Dorje Trolod (p.26) : First ChNN explains that Ati Muwer is one of the three Shang Shung Gonpo Namsum. Then he wrote this: ''When Guru Padmasambhava arrived in Tibet and started to spread the Vajrayana teaching...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

The fact that you personally express ChNN's transmission as 'problematic', doubt its veracity, advise others to treat it with caution, not to see it as a matter of trust, etc etc, whilst weirdly claiming not to do so, is the problem here. If you have received that empowerment from that 'someone who...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

If you receive a transmission from a Guru and then doubt its veracity, advise others to treat it with caution, to abandon trust, and not bother performing the sadhana as transmitted, then what exactly do you have apart from a breach of samaya? I quoted the clear advice of ChNN on such things and ot...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

If ideas are lost in translation or you have misunderstood, do you still break your samaya? If you receive a transmission from a Guru and then doubt its veracity, advise others to treat it with caution, to abandon trust, and not bother performing the sadhana as transmitted, then what exactly do you...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

I think faithful students of ChNN could potentially disagree with him on the Ati Muwer claim without that entailing a loss of faith or breakage of samaya. I think if it is a matter related to an empowerment then if someone disagrees with what they receive they should bugger off and find a different...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

ChNN was referring to earlier historical sources he had available to him that are now obscure, since as you mention, it seems no one asked him for a source, including myself. Just to add, these historical sources couldn't be too old or obscure, not, for example, referring back to pre-Buddhist deiti...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

Could ChNN have encountered Ati Muwer as a Zhang Zhung Tibetan being to which Bonpos then ascribed one set of characterisitics, and Buddhists another? I'm also wondering if there were perhaps two totally different figures of that name in Zhang Zhung. It basically boils down to the difference betwee...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

I half suspect it was through historical research and textual analysis. ChNN's knowledge of how Bon and Buddhism related to one another was second to none. I think the most likely explanation is that the legend of Khyidron being the consort is quite late (I can find no reference to it earlier than ...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

Adzom Drukpa calls the tigress the consort. I refer you back to Malcolm's earlier request: ''I have seen no actual text from a terma that actually states this identification of the tigress as a consort of Guru Rinpoche. So I am going to hold you to your own standard. Show us the text. '' I was simp...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

And i have no doubt in ChNN's realisation or ability to introduce valid innovations to the lineage. The problem is that every time you say you accept that ChNN's description is valid for the terma he is transmitting, you then qualify it with a remark about taking care about it or calling it an 'inn...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

I'd be really happy for anyone to correct me with a textual reference - especially more info on Ati Muwer. I will bail out now. Unless anyone does have more information beyond what has already been shared. PS. my comment about seeing the light was a joke. I assumed he was joking... When we are cons...

Re: Guru Rinpoche As...

As a simple soul if I am using a sadhana I use the descriptions associated with it as transmitted by the Guru. That is always the 'right' description. Different Drolo sadhanas from different termas, different visualisations............can't see a problem. Fair enough. I like to understand t...

Re: Children and the 5 Elements

I agree. I always feel better when I’m outdoors in nature compared to in a city. I’m lucky that my degree, geology, has a large fieldwork component so I get to spend lots of time in nature. In September I was up on the Isle of Skye and loved everyday outside, even in sideways rain, in fact I found ...

Children and the 5 Elements

I don't know why this hasn't occurred to me on my travels, but I was shown a video of kids in India attending a puja and it suddently struck me - children in the UK may not ever have been in contact with the Elements in any meaningful way, in a celebratory and joyful way. Water? Sure, they will expe...
