Re: Advice Needed

Search this forum for words like 'abuse' and 'cult' as it will help you steer clear of potential harm.

Avoid the NKT (New Kadampa Tradition). They have residential centres but for all sorts of reasons I would never recommend anyone to even attend a class, nor are they even discussed on this forum.

Re: The owl

Internet searching doesn't reveal much - except of course the Aro Owl-headed Dakini stuff (think there was a thread here once).
Yes, Robert Beer is a great source. You can also contact him direct, Facebook etc.

Re: Vegetarianism in Tibetan Buddhism

I think there is room for debate in general re. Buddhism, but the real crux of the issue is whether a person eats meat in Tsog/Ganapuja. In general terms you are not a vegetarian if you do, except in the same light as the Indian who is Vegetarian except on a Wednesday, etc. But in Vajrayana terms you...

Perhaps it has escaped your attention, but this has been discussed ad nauseum. https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=213&hilit=vegetarian . Virgo Many topics have been discussed as much or significantly more. Sex, for example. What I am highlighting here is a more extensive and scholarly tre...

Re: INDIAN VEGETARIANS ? :)

I'm having a lot of trouble working out why the meme's creator might have put the last two words in his/her headline. I have met all nine kinds here in Australia, and I'm sure they are found worldwide. Kim It resonates with anyone who is a vegetarian who has visited India and actually eng...

Re: INDIAN VEGETARIANS ? :)

Yes, it is a meme meant as a bit of fun rather than serious analysis. :) Mondays not on the list? I guess they don't eat? ;) I spent quite a lot of time with Jains in India (Jaipur) who were of course very strict vegans, but there were some things I found odd. One was the fasting: 'Today I should be...

Re: Dzogchen Community Naga Rite

Does anyone know about the origin of ChNN's Naga Rite please?

It seems to follow the Thun format but I wondered if it came from Changchub Dorje or Adzom Drugpa originally.

Anyone know?

Thanks. :)

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

This is a note that appears on the webcast page. It's probably been there long time but i I only noticed it last week. Maybe there are some points here that are relevant to the discussion that took place here. "It’s easy to mistake official membership in The International Dzogchen Community as some...

Re: Charging for Dharma

btw. if you say walk, i'll walk, it don't matter much, i'm not offended, but would be untraditional for a buddhist to run away from a buddhist discussion. It is an idiom. It doesn't means walk away. It means to back up your words with actions which reflect what you say. In other words, if you say a...

Dear all, Our teacher, Ngagpa Tshering Dhendup Rinpoche (disciple of Dudjom Rinpoche) from Bhutan intends propagate Dudjom lineage teachings at Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok and Indonesia. Certain prayers in the practice texts which he is using for daily practices haven't been translated into Englis...

Re: California wine radioactive

A few years ago the scare was that some of us were going to die from living in homes built on top of granite, as it emits radioactive radon gas. As my house was built from granite and on granite I clearly should be dead after 10 years exposure, and the current scare is that your granite kitchen work...

Re: Vision (darsana)

When I went to Indian (HIndu and Jain) temples it was explained more simply as making direct contact with the nature of the deity, or Buddha for example. Gaze, direct eye contact and absorb. It is quite common for tourists to have no idea that people in a temple who are simply standing as if in awe ...

I would like to see this conversation continue as I think this is interesting, especially for Bönpo considering these two groups (jhankris and Yungdrung Bönpo) go by the same name and share many dieties and we can expect in the future to see more Nepalese jhankris whose religion is Yungdrung Bön an...

Dakinis are a real pain. Always going on and on transmitting stuff, flying around smashing up the furniture, demanding weird sex.........great teeth, good with a chopper, but they are rubbish cooks. Nah, don't bother. Just find a suitable mountain cave and meet up with one for a week or two every ye...

Re: Importance of Secrecy in Secret Mantra

What part of it is false? Even you should probably qualify what you say when having to speak down to us mere mortals, though I'm sure it's a real pain to do so, especially when we peskily disagree. Samaya is not just something teachers are able to abrogate on their mere say so. Since you are a stud...

Re: Importance of Secrecy in Secret Mantra

I was on a retreat for the last 10 ten days and the lama stressed the importance of tantric secrecy at least one time a day, this really stresses the importance to me of not revealing your practices, their details, and your samaya. It occurs to me that sometimes folk record sessions on their mobile...
