Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I used to post a lot here, and was a Mod at one time, when a great deal of the traffic was about ChNN and the DC. I support what Malcolm has posted and am not in the least persuaded by the use of soundbite quotes to support nabbing the books and teachings because of something he may once have said w...

Re: What is not delusion

Without getting bogged down, I think it is pretty simple. Whatever we sense in our lives, including our dreams, is the only reality we have. Reality is 'of the monent'. The extent to which all equally lacks reality is matched by the extent to which it is also all equally real. So reality and delusio...

Re: Does a Vegan Damaru exist anywhere?

It is perfectly possible to visualise wood and plastic drums as skull and skin. Buddhism is not an exercise in ossification (pun), but adapts to the circumstances in which it exists and in which it seeks to thrive. These ritual items are not linked to killing or sacrifice, however, so I see no reaso...

Re: Durga or Kali

The deity on horseback is now definitely defined as Kalki, an avatar of Vishnu. :)

The two 'dancing' ones are either Kali or Bhairav depending who is selling them. Rajasthanis selling very similar ones tell me it is Kali, which is what I was told 20 years ago, but ............ lol :)

Re: Durga or Kali

The Tantra on bottom right is Sri Yantra or Sri Chakra. It represents the Divine shakti. Yes, the other is Kali's Yantra. the one with the triangle.. look closely and it is like a look done your centre channel and at the bottom is Kundalini . but hey thats me...i see a lot into this stuff others do...

Re: Durga or Kali

The ones on horseback are of a local Rajasthani male deity, Veer Tejaji.
A few people have said the standing ones are Kali, but It looks like they are Bhairab/Bhairava with the dog. So none of them are Kali or Durga. lol :)

Re: Durga or Kali

I also bought a bunch of these in Rajasthan almost 20 years ago. At the time, I was told the multi-armed deity was a local Goddess. I don't remember the name. I was told the standing one was Kali, with the dog underneath, and the one on horseback was a local Durga variant. The standing one in crisp...

Durga or Kali

I brought these amulets back from Rajasthan some time ago. Do they depict Kali, as claimed, or Durga? (Ignore the more modern Yantras.) Ta. :) https://scontent.flhr1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/123070084_1617866345089604_5224254306891025714_o.jpg?_nc_cat=107&ccb=2&_nc_sid=730e14&_nc_ohc=kzQ...

Re: signs and provocations comprendium

Javier, Signs can be tricky. They may not mean what one thinks they mean. They also may not be coming from there white side. That's why it's best to rely on one's Guru. As a corollary of that, it is essential to have a living Guru until one has unified one's own mind and the Guru's wisdom mind. I w...

Re: Topic: Martial Arts & Buddhist Practice?

I'd echo a few of the points made: Traditional martial arts were created for an historical time and culture and specific fighting needs - one sword, two sword, dagger, horseback, armour etc. More modern fighting arts have tried to select the 'best bits' which may work, after a LOT of practice, on th...

Re: Martial Arts & Buddhist Practice?

Many ways to explore this, across many different cultures. I had the short but rare privilege of sharing premises we created with a Dojo on the ground floor and a Zendo above. If you are concerned with compassion, learning how to fight well is very desirable, especially for someone who is likely to ...

Re: Qualifications for Wrathful Activity

Did people misread the post, or am I ? Either you misread it or I wrote it poorly, probably more the latter than the former. My question was basically this - in order to use wrathful means to 'forcefully liberate' a being, I believe there are certain criteria in place that the being-to-be-liberated...

Did people misread the post, or am I ? The post seems to be asking about the qualifications to perform practices, not about the secret aspects of the practices themselves.
