Re: Knife crimes in England

What is interesting about this is that the actual homicide rate is largely unchanged, which means that stabbing is taking up a larger proportion of the total killings. The article suggests this is primarily due to a surge in drug violence, which makes sense when you consider the massive caches of d...

19th century children's saying: Sticks and stones may break my bones But names will never harm me. late 20th century updated version: Sticks and stones may break my bones but will heal, while words cause permanent damage. I prefer the original as it is mind-training for young children. Used in the ...

Re: Dangers of Marijuana

There are so many other factors being played out, that it would be ludicrous and preposterous to draw a relationship between marijuana legalisation and murder/assault in the particular states. And yet he does. A minimal application of critical thinking and a basic understanding of statistics, is al...

Re: Cost of retreats USA vs. EUR

The value of teachings is the same in the spiritual market as in other markets. It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. It shouldn't be that way, but even the dharma businesses which are 'charities' seem to operate with an eye on the bottom line. Make the most of it while you have the health...

Re: Terma of Adzom Drukpa

I'm doing a green Tara practice from the The Treasure of the Vajra of Clear Light ('od gsal rdo rje'i gsang mdzod) of Adzom Drukpa. Seems quite a few people engage in the practice. I'm curious about this terma. What else is in this terma? Any story related to it? Adzom Drugpa's practices from that ...

Re: Riwo Sangchod, Lama Tsultrim: Your horses will die

She said it during the recent online empowerment, in a chukling manner. To put it in a different way: Are you aware of any practice that is strictly practiced at a certain time of the day or night? There ya go - she meant the Chuckling Tersar! lol :) Naga puja (ChNN's) is recommended for early in t...

Not sure if this staff is unique to Chan or even if it is used anymore, but interesting symbolism to it: http://www.cttbearthstore.org/dharma-instrument.html The jingles at the top are numbered according to specific aspects of practice such as 4NT, and the more jingles there are, the more senior th...

Re: Monk Ki Balls

I went to two "teachings" by this guy in Athens. He claimed he was the official representative for the Palyul lineage in Greece, so I sent an email to the central organisation asking if this was the case. No, of course I did not ever receive an answer. His students tried to persuade me to do...

Re: Dharmic Fungibility

So here's a question: When does Dharmic advertising go bad? What are the specific red flags? I used to work in PR and in Advertising. PR is about dissemination of information. Advertising is about generating sales and profits. In the last few decades those lines have become very blurred indeed. Whe...

Re: Simhamukha Retreat @ Tara Mandala, May 19-27

I have already commented on her selling of ChNN's Chod at a very lucrative rate whilst also debasing it like a Black Friday deal with a discount. I'm afraid I don't care how much she has done to attract people to the DC in the past. It is clear how the Master's teachings are now to be exploited. Sad...

Re: Mystery Masks - Cham/Tsam Dance?

I would guess Nepalese demon masks. If they were wrathful deities they would have five skulls, one for each of the Buddha families. Yes, Dharmapalas or demons seem most likely. They were a set of 3 found in a loft when someone moved into a house. He had no idea where they were from but they appeale...

Mystery Masks - Cham/Tsam Dance?

These 3 masks came as a set from a house sale for a few pounds. They are wooden, quite split and with a red wax export seal of the sort used in Nepal, but of course they stick them on fake stuff as well. From the skulls at the top I assume they are more likely to be Tibetan or Mongolian than Indones...

Re: Lama Tsultrim Allione - Open Webcast Transmission - January 20, 2019

She seems to be advertising Chöd practice of Chögyal Namkha'i Norbu Rinpoche quite heavily as a course, and if you're quick you can get a discount on the price. Whether or not she has permission to give this empowerment, it is pretty crass IMHO to be advertising it commercially at this time and eve...
