Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I'm not quite sure I've seen the very same practice, but when I was in Tashigar/Argentina last year on a retreat with Tsoknyi Rinpoche (organized by Dongyu Ling) they used an amended Konchog Chidu practice booklet, where the ChNN's Song of Vajra was included and sung as well (though in a slightly d...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Interestingly I was talking to a student of Tsoknyi Rinpoche recently and learned that their group has a sadhana practice that not only includes Song of the Vajra (and the purification of the five elements), but uses the same melody. Tsoknyi Rinpoche presumably received it from ChNN though. Interes...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Well, if my source is not lying (and why would they be), no extrapolation here at all. I heard about the whole thing from a person who was there, taking part in a DC pilgrimage in Nepal, who was among those whom ChNN told to seek out LTN and TUR, and who actually did go out and meet LTN (they did n...

Lopon Tenzin Namdak. It doesn't look like he is very accessible at the moment. Hopefully there are others as well. Actually, he is very (given his age) accessible: http://www.shenten.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=40&Itemid=106&lang=en As far as I know, there seem to ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Does anyone have an email address for Steve Landsberg or Elio Guarisco that they could PM me? There's one for Elio in the pdf list of SMS Instructors floating around, it seems to be an old disused one though as my email bounced back from it.

Re: Vasectomy

Nope. You are too old for sbyor lam anyway, right? Are there various types of consort practice? I know nothing about this area but recently heard a talk about Tare Lhamo and Namtrul Rinpoche, who only met at 42 and 36, and revealed treasures through consort practice. I have no idea how/if that rela...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

There is a booklet that is titled something along the lines of 'Preliminary practices for the base of SMS' , it is a collection of verses that, from what I gather, are to be utilized as a prior to practice in the role of a preliminary . They include the four awarenesses among others. Prior ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Since you post in this particular forum on the "four thoughts" you will find the information you are looking for in "The Precious Vase". Thanks, I've just had another look at "The Precious Vase", it's very clear on the essential point of the "four awarenesses", but it doesn't seem to give any advic...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Where would be an appropriate place to contemplate the four thoughts that turn the mind during the short/medium thun? I've generally heard it recommended that if another practice is going to be inserted, to do it at the end, before dedicating/empowering the merit. As the four thoughts are usually do...

Re: thugs kyi dgongs pa

Thanks all for the input. The phrase is part of a long, run-on sentence, so I just posted the clause I was interested in to try to simply things - it seems that just made it more confusing though. It's from "Awakening at Dawn from the Sleep of Unknowing". I just found another translation by EPK here...

thugs kyi dgongs pa

I'm trying to understand the phrase thugs kyi dgongs pa. In context it's: ཐུགས་ཀྱི་དགོངས་པ་རིག་པ་རང་ཤར་གྱི་ངོ་བོ་བདག་ལ་ thugs kyi dgongs pa rig pa rang shar gyi ngo bo bdag la The translation I have is: "(they) direct (their) minds, the quintessence of self-manifest awareness, towards me" The second...

OK, yea I've never seen this tech before. Still, I wouldn't trust it for translating Buddhist tantras.
Oh yeah, totally agree with you on that, we're going to need human translators for a long time to come.

Re: Translatorhood

For better or worse, the way that machine translators works that is not really a possibility. They are trained initially by looking at how human translators have converted text from one language to another, and subsequently by feedback from human users of their output (gross simplification, I know,...

Sad news, I hadn't heard. A legend of the sport.

In a past life (metaphorically speaking) I coached weightlifting for a while, don't keep up with the news anymore though.

While certainly fun, and just as surely useful, learning Italian is no necessary prerequisite for going to Merigar. I do not speak a word in the language (and my far-from-perfect French proved to be just as useless as English) -- but got along just fine.
That's good to know, thanks.
