Re: Is Katha Unorthodox?

I was just recently trying out kathas as an aftermath for the practice(like how one prays to protectors after completing a sadhana), especially protective paritta chants. So I recited a paritta chant used by monks since Theravada doesn't have any form of empowerment and followed what the Dhammawhee...

Re: Emanation Confusion

So I've been trying to understand emanations and incarnations, but an having hard times understanding this. Is an emanation if a deity still the deity itself? Or is it the deity' s child/whatever it Is? Saraswati is an emanations of Tara. Does that mean they are the same being? The 21 Taras are ema...

Re: Blessing Images?

I have found this: http://www.thangkapaintings.com/thankapaintingprocess.php seems like the process is even more complicated than i have initialy thought. And about images inspired by Dharma - i do agree that noone needs anyoones permition to make them. But to use them as an object of practice is a ...

Re: New Rigpa letter

Malcolm what do you think about training in all paramitas, bodhicitta, kyerim and dzogrim, in fact - by all those trainings - i do train in pretending beeing awaken. Is it also worthless becouse of mental afflictions? My teacher use to say, that even if we wont achieve the fruit of the path, we are ...

Re: Blessing Images?

Thangka is something more than painting and comes from deep understanding of religion, symbolism, proportions, angles, lines, colours, shapes, positions, every single piece painted or used have its meaning. As i understand the process its not the bless that makes thangka, its every single moment of ...

Re: Turn daily life into Dharma

whats the point of life is realy good question considering your subject :). And tbh by reading you i have strong feeling that u somehow hame connected real religious experience with society. But thats blind corner as sociwty itself is a great example how impermanence works. And in my opinion if u ne...

Re: Turn daily life into Dharma

Well, how do you keep your practice up without a community? I can walk around thinking positive thoughts about everyone, saying mantras during the day etc. But without the possibility of shared frame of reference with the people around you - it's all in your head. No one will ever know. I've starte...

Re: Turn daily life into Dharma

Its very simple imo ;). Train in paramitas , practice bodhicitta - work with compassion and love, meditate (formal practice and in between sessions), train in pure perception, dont hurt anyone (that means you as well), use every single opportunity to practice Dharma - the four foundations should be ...

Re: What do 'emanation of' means according to vajrayana?

I have found great comparison on the trikaya idea: If we were to compare Dharmakaya to vapor, Sambhogakaya to clouds, then Nirmanakaya to rain. And HE Tais Situpa saying: "dharmakaya, sambhogakaya, and nirmanakaya are not separate from each other. They are just three different aspects of the state o...

Re: What is the purpose of chanting?

For some its more profound in english (becouse of easy understanding the meaning), for others its more profound in tibetan. I love tibetan mellody and how the language sounds, for some reason (i guess karmic) its easy for me to remember tibetan sutras and then to follow them with understanding the m...

Re: What do 'emanation of' means according to vajrayana?

སྤྲུལ - sprul, thats my guess for a word (as ive done some research in wylie) seems like emanation/manifestation is the easiest term to understand of its meaning.

Re: "Forgiveness Is Not Buddhist" Article by McLeod in Tricycle

Interesting article, setupped hardly within dualistic point of view, not showing another part of the buddhist practice (and i guess its done by purpose). As long as we will operate within self-other space, every conclusion about forgiveness, suffering, harm (between 2 or more beeings) will have self...

Re: Siddhis/Methods for Fixing Scoliosis

If I was a Buddha who had the knowledge how another could cure scoliosis him-/herself, and someone would approach me asking for cure - would I send the person away telling that this wish is too worldly and the person should first purify his/her mindstream from the idea of getting rid of the disease...

Re: Siddhis/Methods for Fixing Scoliosis

of course you can achieve the eight common or ordinary siddhi through wanting them. that's why they are called ordinary or common. they are achieved in common by practitioners of many different traditions and religions without necessarily being associated with Bodhicitta. the keys are faith (that i...

U can also ask nearest Lama to perform some rituals/prayers for your grandmother. U can also ask people here in Prayers and Aspirations section to pray and practice for your grandmother. There are many practices that can be done in such situations, and many here practicing it occasionaly or even dai...

Wait what about if you WANT siddhis due to compassion Fort others and even Want to use it as a form of skill full means? Re: Siddhis/Methods for Fixing Scoliosis

In Tibetan Buddhism (and thats the part of the forum we are discussing at) siddhi can be an effect of spiritual accomplishment. Its hard to talk about accomplishment if you want something becouse its part of desire which is klesha - one of 3 most fundamental things u should work with and transform a...

Re: Siddhis/Methods for Fixing Scoliosis

Hmm... possible that we want to use these Siddhis to heal people too if we could ? Also can bodhisattvas use their siddhis/power to heal people ( spine ) ? U do still WANT some mystic power, as long as you WANT it, you WONT get it, as its a play of your ego. Can Bodhisattva heal? They are doing it ...

Re: Siddhis/Methods for Fixing Scoliosis

Don't place too much hope in these siddhis man... But why? In my opinion: Becouse you want to practice to gain siddhis to resolve your spine issue. Practicing with mundane (in fact with any) expectations wont bring any siddhis. Expectations are part of mental afflictions, so practising base on them...
