Just an example by the way. My point is to get creative and make time and money can create ones own auspicious conditions.

Dude, you should totally set up a day trading school for tantrikas.

The man had many good qualities once you get past the laundry issue.

I just don't think they knew about separating whites and colors in Tibet.

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

Not to minimize what seems to be a disturbing situation, but I have heard that there is actually not a vow. Apparently, Shambhala students are just told that studying with other teachers will simply be too much of a time commitment, and accordingly, Shambhala teachers discourage it. This informatio...

You might find this interesting: https://www.dhammatalks.org/Archive/Writings/TheBuddhaSmiles151017.pdf Thank you for the link. I guess an academic book about the Buddha’s humor was destined to be humorless. The Introduction argues that the suttas are not without humor, that the fault is with the t...

Now that I think about it, I also saw Adzom Paylo Rinpoche teach at the Berkeley Shambhala Center, but that would have been a fairly long time ago.

Also, there's this:

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

Well, I'll have to look into this a little, but I don't know if it's as simple as what Lama Tsultrim said. E.g., I believe that Pema Chodron is part of the Shambhala org and for sure Dzigar Kongtrul is her main teacher now. Also, I saw Tsoknyi Rinpoche teach at the Berkeley Shambhala center not all ...

Re: Can anyone identify this prayer?

It's a famous prayer found in lots of chod texts. Thanks, can you point me to a text that might have a romanization of the Tibetan as well? Here it is in Wy...

So Shambhala makes people take a vow so that they won’t have any other teachers? Now that is messed up!
I was thinking the same thing when I heard that.

I’ve read a fair number of suttas and sutras, but I’ve not read any that describe the Buddha as laughing. Did the Buddha have a sense of humor?

I did a bit of digging and found some good info taken from Karma Chagme's Mountain Dharma. It is all quite traditional but helpful. Re: Mipham Rinpoche channels Weinstein:

Recall Milarepa’s comment on the fox and the lion. He was referring there to living the life of a householder - and saying that he wasn’t up to it. Um, Milarepa may not have been "up to it" but many contemporary well respected lamas seem to be, ChNN for example, so I guess they all have greater cap...

Let's not forget Drukpa Kunley . He was known for his crazy methods of enlightening other beings, mostly women, which earned him the title "The Saint of 5,000 Women". Among other things, women would seek his blessing in the form of sex. That part kind of reminds me of an amusing story about one of ...
