Re: If the bad times are coming, what to do?

Yeah, I mean why would you want to "stock up" on wisdom, merit and compassion when you can be a violent self-centered murderer, right? :rolleye: is it murder if you are using weapons for self-defense? Sorry, did I say murder? I meant to say killing. That is what the precept is about, after all: kil...

from my readings, buddhas only make an appearance in human flesh once there are no traces of dharma left in the world.

Re: Buddhist Authorities Hunt Down Monk For Being Too Ripped

Many bodybuilders are straight edge and don't do steroids. It's a healthy and positive way to live. You on steroids or something? There ain't a body builder alive who is not on something... anything! No I'm not and you're wrong. Most guys with normal genetics can look like the monk with some protei...

A first year bodhisattva? None.
Sorry I meant first level/bhumi.
The signs of progress of bodhisattvas on the stages is detailed in the Dasabhumi Sūtra.
I'll check it out thanks.

Re: Jobs that serve alcohol?

The precept says nothing about "alcohol is a poison", or "alcohol is inherently bad so don't have anything to do with it". There are other teachings that certainly might say things like this, and we should adhere to the teachings which are definitive for us. If one is simply following the fifth pre...

Re: Jobs that serve alcohol?

Why would you want others to keep accumulating bad karma by selling alcohol so you can have some for your puja? Maybe learn how to make some at home if you need it badly. That way you aren't supporting an industry that contributes to many social ills, misery, and death worldwide. The precept agains...

So, what do you think Guru Rinpoche would say about making, selling, serving, or delivering alcohol for the purpose of earning one's personal livelihood? Not much, actually. On the other hand, one does not want to wind up like these two clowns: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/two-buddhist-...

Re: Jobs that serve alcohol?

I used to work as a bar man and keep the fifth precept. The fifth precept is voluntary and a personal choice. You cannot enforce temperance on others. In some Thervada countries you cannot sell alcohol on certain days. In many Muslim countries you are not allowed to sell alcohol at all, and yet peo...
