Re: Vajrayana. It’s Simple.

It's still not that straightforward, IMO. Look at Sogyal Rinpoche's credentials... Vajrayana is a very powerful medicine; if used incorrectly, it's a very powerful poison... If anyone had enquired into the amount of time Lakhar spent with his supposed gurus and his age during that training; what pr...

Re: Tunes for Throma Nagmo "Intermediate" sadhana

There is a good recording of the middle length practice by Chagdud Rinpoche: marcofromM, I dedicate the merit of offering a peony this morning to the 3 roots to you! Beware that there are distinct styles or traditions of melodies and also the arrangement of the text might differ slightly. There is ...

Tunes for Throma Nagmo "Intermediate" sadhana

As I understand it the "concise" version is long enough, the "intermediate" or "medium" is quite long, and the "full" (which I haven't seen) is huge. Anyway, my teacher has said that if I "can learn the middle length Töma Sadhana with tsok is excellent". So, work to do there, isn't there? So my ques...

Re: Dharmakaya / Primordial Buddha

He (Vajradhara) is considered a Samboghkaya emanation of Samanthabadra I’m Kagyu and I’ve always thought that Vajradhara was Sambogakaya appearance of Dharmakaya. Dharmakaya itself has no appearance whatsoever. However I can’t back it up with a citation. My understanding too. Or Vajradhara ...

Re: Finding Your Guru

Neonpheonixneco..I don't want to go all PC on you...but you might want to reflect on your use of the term 'Hinayana'. First of all it actually denotes a school that no longer exists. Second of all it is often used by Mahayana followers in a condescending way towards followers of the Theravada to su...

Re: Moonlight - Lhalungpa?

Commenting here as a bump. I've no doubt that Callahan's translation is outstanding, as it would be/should be. But as for specific faults in the Lhalungpa version - yes, what are they? I've heard dark hints, but nothing concrete. I'll admit it's quite a lot of years since I opened my copy, and now b...

Re: Offering mandala plates

The extra drops of saffron water have done the trick - thanks for all the suggestions! I started with Longchen Nyinthik and then there were some obstacles, such as my Lama died, the practice group left town and my inspiration suffered. Thought I would never see the proverbial light at the end of the...

Re: Offering mandala plates

I managed to finish the Kagyu Ngondro in 9 years, but we were allowed to do each section seperately. So to do 100 accumulations would only take an hour or so with the liturgy. Yes, that was what I did - complete your prostrations, then your Dorje Sempas, then ... When I referred to sessions of 2 or...

Re: Offering mandala plates

Are you continuing Ngondro, doing another Ngondro or are you just having fun and being generous? :D I'm doing another one. I did the Karma Kamtsang one quite a few years ago. I only continued doing a bit of that, because to make it "round" it's nice to do the whole set, but there is quite a lot of ...

Offering mandala plates

I recently got a new one, smaller than the one I was using before but more nicely worked. This prompted 2 thoughts: A) Traditional mandala offering plates are convex (somewhat domed). Does anyone know why? b) The new one being smaller than the old one and in fact more highly domed, by the time I've ...

Re: Unicode mantras

Also 'crazy-man' posted a link to this really good little transcriber/translator: http://www.thlib.org/reference/dictionaries/tibetan-dictionary/translate.php Yes, I've used that many times. My problem (a manifestation of laziness, I accept) is figuring out how to input the necessary to get unusual...

Re: Finding Your Guru

I am happy to say that I may have met my root guru. With all due respect, I wonder if you are jumping the gun to feel you have found your root guru so fast and so easily. Do think about it long and hard, please. There is no shame in being impressed at first and having second thoughts later as your ...

Re: Transcribe cassettes soon!

I know that 5 1/4 floppy disk drives are quite expensive nowadays (yes they still make them because they're still used for records storage in a few hospitals and banks for some reason). Good posting. I only chime in because, believe it or not, the "Students Supermarket" in the town where I live, wh...

Re: Unicode mantras

Try : http://www.visiblemantra.org/mantra.html It has Siddham, Tibetan and Lantsa - for at least the first 3 of the ones you are after. A spreadsheet is an easy way to copy and paste multiple mantras. Thank you for that. I had seen that site, but hadn't spotted that there were unicode versions of s...

Unicode mantras

I have a couple of essentially empty (in conventional truth) prayer wheels, and I want to prepare printed strips of mantras to fill them. I have Microsoft Himalaya, Tibetan Machine Web and Tibetan Machine Uni fonts installed, so most things display ok. My problem is text entry a) at all, and b) for ...

Re: Beginner Practice Books?

And here was me, having decided that I was irritated enough by the disapparition of my copy that at that price it would be worth plugging the gap and getting another copy. I was going to do that this morning! Illusions, illusions. It's a small book, so perhaps I should dig through the various assort...
