Re: Celibacy

Causal sex is not sexual misconduct as spelled out by the Buddha. I'm willing to concede that for lay-people casual sex is not misconduct in so far as they at least follow the previously-mentioned general guidelines of Tibetan Medicine . Masturbation is not sexual misconduct as spelt out by the Bud...

Re: ChNN's Yantra yoga: Transmission or no transmission?

This book presents what we call the Open Level of Yantra Yoga and covers the basic practice of Yantra that anyone can apply with a little training and good will. This is my intention and my hope in opening Yantra Yoga to the world. Which means that it is okay to practice without Transmission anythi...

Re: Celibacy

So what's the big difference between Hatha Yoga and Yantra Yoga? Why can I practice one without transmission and not the other? Because Yantra Yoga is overall much more dynamic than Hatha Yoga. Well, I am under no delusions. I am under the impression that I still haven't found the right ladder yet....

Re: Celibacy

There is no mass level of "our" practice. Someone can talk only about himself/herself. My teacher suggests to male practitioners who aspire to practice liberation through sensation that they should never loose their pure essence (sperm). And as far as I know, he is not the only teacher who is givin...

Re: Celibacy

This is what I had an issue with in the first place: the fact that you believe lay people would be better breaking the third precept rather than do something which does not break the third precept. No I still think that lay people would generally-speaking be worse off masturbating than having casua...

Re: Celibacy

especially if you consider at what level our practices are right now. Agreed. The greater the heights, the more terrible the fall. Whereas if someone falls off the first rung of the ladder from the bottom, they might end up with only a small goose-egg. Of course this shouldn't be an excuse to think...

Re: Celibacy

To first of all reply in response to the recent postings in this thread in general, I don't think anyone here implied that masturbation would lead to anything near "eternal damnation or hell" (because for one, no Buddhist school that I know of believes in eternal hell; just temporary (albeit loooong...

Re: Celibacy

It is probably more admirable that men can stay away from women, even if it means if they happen to eventually have sex, it will be a disappointment. I really cannot see your point on this one. Sex is sex, and sex is almost always a distraction from the path - as are women in general (for men, vice...

Re: Celibacy

Hi Konchog, When looking closely, you can see where the quote-tags are messed up. In editing the quote-tags carefully, it should read like this, yes?: Some people watch porn to have sex. Exactly right. They watch porn to have sex. They would be in for a horrible surprise if they tried to have sex wi...

Re: Alternative Media Causes Whole Foods Market GMO-Labeling

Greentara, did you mean to write "even worse *than* in the third world"? Anyway, even though what you say is a pretty accurate assessment of the situation in the U.S., holding Whole Foods Market's feet to the fire (as it was put in the first article I posted in this thread) seems to be doing at leas...

Re: Celibacy

Hi Dronma, I was under the impression that anything from the following (new) book and two DVD's can be practiced without Transmission: http://www.yantrayoga.org/tibetan-yoga-of-movement-level-one-and-two-dvds-now-available/ http://www.yantrayoga.org/store3/books/tibetan-yoga-of-movement-the-art-and-...

Re: Celibacy

All "reality" is based on fantasy. Well most who have this idea are probably aware of it mainly at the level of intellect; and having a mostly intellectual 'understanding' of the fact doesn't help much. All I'm saying is that if one wants to keep specific vows and/or not deplete Ojas or mDangs, the...

Re: Celibacy

I'm not saying that masturbation will make one incapable of achieving an erection. I'm saying that masturbation is likely to make it much more difficult to achieve an erection in an intimate encounter with an actual sexual partner. Why? Well first of all masturbation is based on fantasy. And there m...

Re: Celibacy

The way I see it, if one is going to masturbate, then might as well go out and have some casual sex. Masturbation without porn might not be as unhealthy as masturbation with porn, but it's unhealthy nonetheless and could also lead to erectile dysfunction. Whereas actual sex can be healthy, and even ...

Re: Alternative Media Causes Whole Foods Market GMO-Labeling

My question is: Why is it taking five years for this to happen? I don't see why it couldn't be achieved within two or three years at most. It looks like I'm not the only one asking this question: Food Retailer's Plan to Label GMOs a Victory for Grassroots Food Activists and Consumers, but Five-Year...

Re: Does Vajrasattva exist?

Well, I haven't come to any conclusions yet, but a certain real live teacher said, while discussing the kunjed gyalpo, that Sattvavajra does not exist and was basically just a literary device. Perhaps she or he meant that in the context of what the Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra is trying to convey Sattvavaj...
