Re: Express your Zen in 10 words.

:yinyang: :yinyang: It is all relative, ten words can be quite non-dualistic: "Resulting from our state of pretending to remain without thoughts" In Hungarian could be expressed by just one word: gondolatlanságoskodásainktól or: "Originating from our state of pretending to stay without concepts" One...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

For the meat eaters here, when cell-cultured meat becomes available, will you eat it? Considering that it will reduce animal cruelty by a considerable extent and the ongoing degradation of the environment. https://newfoodeconomy.org/cell-cultured-meat-usda-fda-regulatory-framework/ gassho Rory I wo...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

Tatpurusa, its all kinds of ridiculous to argue the transcendence of mundane right and wrong on a freaking internet discussion forum. If you're so far along, what are you doing wasting your time arguing that meat is OK here on DW? Give me a break. If people have transcended this triple world and no...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

If someone wants to know what buddhists mean by 'attachment' this is the best example that I have ever seen! gassho Rory Yeah, well, that works on other levels too. Like I said, people love their identities. Exactly. This is why I say one should watch and be aware of the illusions created by follow...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

PS vegan me isn't worried. They're developing cloned meat in Israel and elsewhere, you'll all be eating it before long. I'm good with that...though the ethics are interesting to contemplate. Not really. Reasonable people will choose real food based on fresh ingredients, not processed, genetically m...

And you know me so well you can advise me on what I'm doing right and wrong? Go on. No, I am not advising you at all. I am merely respondig to what you wrote about my original statements, explaining my point of view. In no way do I want to influence you, but I do not want to be misunderstood or mis...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

Are YOU seriously making that argument? :rolling: Yes, of course. Absolutely seriously. It can give you the comfortable feeling that you are more perfect than others, whereas the only thing that really matters is realization. Because of this, following rules can be an obstacle. You need more than t...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

You keep making these extreme arguments as though any point you make precludes also avoiding killing beings. I get it - meat is important to you. OK. No, they are not extreme arguments but fairly standard ones by Tantric/Dzogchen masters. You do not understand my point. Not meat is importan...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

I suspect that there is an Elephant in the room. Basically it’s about whether ones sympathies lie with Chinese/ East Asian Schools or with the Indo-Tibetan traditions. Of course that’s a huge generalisation..but still.... Or rather like a difference between the Sutric and Tantric/Dzogchen views..

Re: Great Vegan Debate

So, some samsara is just being human, but other samsara is something we should work on. Would you argue that eating meat is just as serious of an offence than killing humans? This explicitely contradicts traditional Buddhist teachings. No. But if you can also stop stealing, sounds like a plan. Stop...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

If eating meat would be considered such a grave offence by Buddhist masters, why is it that accomplished Tibetan masters choose to be reborn that often within families of Tibetan nomads? Nomads live almost exclusively on animal products that they scarcely complete with some plant based foods. They e...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

Within nature all creatures have their natural food they have lived on for millions of years. In case of humans this includes meat, so it can be argued that this is about as much determined by our place within nature, by our biology and our place within the food chain than in case of wolves and dogs...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

All beings eat other beings within this samsara and get eaten on their part. There is no nutrition at all other than the corpses of other beings. Unless we begin eating exclusively synthetic food. But even the industrial production of synthetic food would destroy life. Particularly, it would harm th...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

Someone defending the practices of meat production and consumption, making arguments that it's perfectly fine in some kind of debate, is the same as making an argument for the slitting of throats. The difference here is I don't go around debating people, arguing in favor of the bombing of Iraqis. M...

How anyone could even begin to defend such practices, just doesn't make any sense.
As nobody was defending such practices in this thread, (at least not known to me) this one seems one more strawman argument.
